Default Saturday Southport Report

The weather man was partially right chance of rain yes, wind a little more than 10 knts where we were!! We headed out to the 20ftm line on Saturday went through one little rain storm on the way out . First spread out hooked and released a nice king around 20lbs. Reset lines and then the spread was attacked by a school of Good size Bonita in the 10lb range we boated and released Five out of Six fish. Reset again and started trolling toward the tower and found a small patch of weeds and caught and released 3 small dolphin and caught 2 gaffers around 15 lbs each. Then we had a screamer on a TLD25 my brother fought the fish which turned out to be a 35 lb Wahoo Nice surprise. We caught and released one more King and saw a Sail free jumping. We then spent the rest of the morning dodging a pretty big Storm and decided to head to the hill. I have a feeling the guys at the Horseshoe got there boats washed!! Hope everyone was OK.The storm looked really dense on the Radar.
On the way in I thought I saw Fishfactory, hope you caught a few. Also saw someone kite fishing near the shipping channel. It would be interesting to give the kite a try offshore!
We marked lots of bottom fish trolling around and might have to give the bottom dwellers a shot next trip!! Tight lines Mark

Good report Mark. It sounds like you had a fine day, esp. with the hoo in the box. We got washed out in GA this weekend......I love driving 250 miles to be turned around at the inlet .......washed the boat and went home on Sat.

Tommy,
The TLD 25s are my favorite reel for the kind of fishing I do. It is a great all around trolling reel!! Did you get your boat out of the water?

David
Sorry to hear about the wash out I saw the Sail in the cooler. At least we were able to get a good half day in and with the easterly winds we were glad to catch what we did. Radar is a good thing. This is actually the first time I have been out and had to use it to dodge the storms..

Mark

Where were they kite fishing. Will probably fish the shipping channel next weekend in a tournament for that big king but not sure where to start. Been to yaupon before but not sure how far out they are getting the big kings when they say they got it in the "shipping channel" Is most of the action past the sea buoy and out towards lighthouse rocks? Preciate any info.

The largest King I ever caught in NC was 38lbs and caught her drifting from one side of the shipping channel to the other put it back in gear and do it again. We used to fish from the third bouy from the inlet out to the sea bouy. Alot of people like to slow troll the edges but we used to drift. Mark
