thanks streak, thinking about relocating to nc haven't decided on a area yet, oriental seems nice, willl want a place on the water, and the distance to run to the offshore grounds is a factor, what type of fishing do u have closer to oriental in the rievr etc?
the river has been a tough nut for me to crack. i just havent had any luck there to speak of. i usually fish the creeks and it hasnt been consistent. lot of great days w/ puppy drum, flounder and some good speck fishing in the fall.. but a lot of days the fish just dont want to cooperate. guess thats true just about everywhere. i use to fish ches. bay a lot and most times i could find something but its been a little harder here.

thats where i live now, actually on the lynnhaven river in va beach, so fishing will be a big factor, i love the striper fishing, do any guys run offshore from that area in oriental or is it too far a run .....
nobody i know makes a habit of running offshore from oriental. occasionally some guys will make a run but mostly its local stuff. i think a lot of people like to trailer their boats to harkers or beaufort and fish off shakleford banks and cape lookout. the run to ocracoke isnt too bad from places like broad creek, you just have to watch the weather. you'll be surprised by how snotty the neuse and pamlico sound can get.

You can run to Beaufort Inlet and catch striper at Cape Lookout but typically would find that trailering would be the best way to go, especially that time of year.
For offshore runs you can always head east across the sound and fish out of Ocracoke inlet. The Pamlico Sound can be a little choppy at times so the trip home can be interesting. But then again the run from Adams Creek/ICW back across the river to Oriental can be fun also. Overall the area is a great balance of amenities and outdoor activities with a good centralized location to many different types of fishing locales.
forget about offshore and get yourself a smaller center console. Fish for Tarpon, Giant Red Drum, and all the specks, flounder, puppy drum, and greys you can ask for in the Pamlico Sound. You'll save lotsa money on gas!
