I am going to the Beaufort area in last week of August-first week of September.I have been told big red drum fishing is at its prime around that time of year. Can anyone recomend a good guide ? Also a good real estate agent who knows about fishing, tides and water orientated homes or comunities? Thanks

Check out NC Waterman.com. Look in the Charter Captains Forum.

If you are looking to catch and release large , 25lb + drum @ that time of year most of it takes place in the lower Neuse river and Western Pamlico Sound. Call Derek Jordan of DJ's guide service. Derek is an excellent fisherman and a nice guy. He mainly fishes out of Oriental at that time of year. I will look for his # and post later. Mitchell

I second what Hot Spot said.

Also George Beckwith who runs Down East Guide service. George has done a fair amount of grant funded research on Red Drum and is quite knowledgeable in that area. www.pamlicoguide.com

George Beckwith is the best for large Red Drum. He has radio transmitters attached to a large # of them because of studies he has done and can locate them when others have a hard time. It doesn't seem fair does it.

Derek is no longer guiding. He should be well on his way to marine enforcement soon.

Down East guide service is a good group and George certainly knows his stuff. He is still in Costa Rica for the winter if anyone wants a good trip south he will fix you right up. Greg Voliva has now teamed up with Down East guide service and I can promise anyone that wants to fish or hunt that Greg will treat them right and put you on some fish. You should be able to reach him through George's website. pamlicoguide.com

Gary Dubiel also fishes light tackle/fly out of oriental on Spec Fever. Very nice guy that has fished the entire area for many years. I second hotspots suggestion about ncwaterman's guide section. The guys there are a great group who always have some nice catches around morehead/bogue inlet area. If you have any more questions or need specific contact info. PM me anytime.

BTW, for a good realtor around Oriental....call Sail Loft realty and ask for Elizabeth Harris. She is not a true local but she is as close as anyone comes to local status without being born in the area. (800) 327-4189

Tell any of the above guides or realtor the eye doc sent you. And tell them I said Duh-HUH
