I have communicated with Bhoneycut by email and I appreciate his perspective and his experience. However there is nothing like seeing a boat while it is being built. In my case I do know Riddick personally and my opinion is based in part on his long boat building experience and the passion he has to build a quality boat.
I have no agenda, just voicing my opinion! If you think it is a good deal, buy it. I'll just tell you my frist boat had wood in the transom, it looked just like the pictures when I purchased. In two years, the transom was saturated, the company was out of business, I had a worthless warranty and four more years of boat payments. Just trying to keep someone from making the same mistake. No wood, No rot.
P.S I'm not posting the pictures, and I am not going to send them to anyone else.
if you are worried about wood in a boat then you should also stay away from the bayriders . they also have wood in the transom and the deck is wood , and the for deck cored with wood. all the wood is covered with reisen and fiberglass or reisen .
i also know woody reddick very well and the fit and finsh on there boat is second to none , he and ronnie eason will stand behind there boats. they are not a massproduction company they can build two boats a week.
as for the bayriders mine the 23 ft model it is a tank ,put the bay runnier does rider better than mine yet it it is not as big .
The transom of a Bay Rider is not wood,it's Kledgecell, that spelling is way off i think. Correction,no wood transoms in about two and half years, some of the first Bay Riders built did have wood transomes
I looked at the pictures that seawolf sent me. ( flatcalm, and sea rat) do you know what you are looking for? 4 out of 5 pictures show raw wood under the floor. This is not good at all in 2-3 years it will be decayed. If these guys want to build boats they need to step up to the plate and put a product out that will be a good investment for everyone. Flat calm you said that you were at their operation, i don't call building a boat in a garage an operation. As for Sea Rat he has no idea what he is talking about. Their is no wood in the transom of the Bayriders, as for ride you must be dumb, their is no way that a boat half the weight will ride as good and handel as well as a bayrider. Let me throw this out to you boys thinking about buying a riddick. How are you going to be able to get finacing on a boat that is not approvied by the coast guard. Also what are you going to do if these back yard boat builders go out of business, and you are stuck with a boat that no one makes any more. Also what are you going to do if you want to sell the boat and it is not in the NADA book. If these boys want to build boats they need to build a plant, send a boat to virgina and get it approved by the coast guard, stop putting wood in their transoms and put a good warranty to stand behind and then they can be compared to a bayrider until then they are no better then a piece of wood with fiberglass on one side.
No just know the facts. Everything I wrote is all facts and you can check out for your self. do you have an agenda? After reading you post , let me ask you something do you know what resin is , No because if you did you would know that there is no resin or glass on the underside of the deck..Do you work for Riddick??
IF ANYBODY WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO MAN THAT IS BUILDING THE RIDDICK . YOU CAN GIVE HIM A CALL AT 252 972 0931 .ASK FOR WOODY RIDDICK , HE WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.ALSO GO BY THE BOAT SHOP AND WATCH THEM BUILD THE BOAT . I THINK THEY ARE BUILDING 1 OR 2 BOATS WEEK RIGHT NOW.ASK WOODY FOR DIRECTIONS TO THE SHOP.
Capt Mitch since you know so much about Woddy and his boats ask him if he is going to get his boat approved by the coast guard, and stop putting WOOD in his Transoms.
Ricky Scarborough boats aren't listed in NADA either. Nor is Shearline. Nor is Intruder. Are they all bad boats? The NADA guide is fairly useless.
And there's nothing wrong with wood in a transom. It's how well it is put there that matters. Ask Grady White about that.
Not sure what you mean about not being able to get financing on a boat not approved by the Coast Guard. Why couldn't you? I'm sure there are plenty of Riddicks out there that are not completely paid for. I do agree with you that they should get Coast Guard approval on their boats though. Yes, it's a bit of a rip-off, but as threads like this point out, the public is looking for it. And ya gotta give us what we want!
Also what are you going to do if you want to sell the boat and it is not in the NADA book.

You can add Jones Brothers and Contender to the brands that are not listed in NADA. Some lenders are reluctant to offer loans on boats not listed, but knowledgeable marine lenders most certainly will. It may take a few jumps through hoops, but loans are definitely obtainable for boats not listed with NADA...
I've been in a lot of the shops that produce the boats listed in this thread. Whether smaller in production like Riddick, Intruder and Shearline or larger producers like Jones Bros., Kencraft and Grady, they are carrying on the North Carolina tradition of building capable, but unique boats. Not one of them would cut corners today because they want, and need the reputation associated with quality to be successful. While I know Riddick the best, and some not at all, I am convinced that pride is big factor and none would put their name on a boat they couldn't or wouldn't stand by.

This was well said and it was nice to see this thread die out. I am sorry for bringing it back to life.
I am a newbie to the Hull Truth and know Ken Vick and Woody Riddick both. In the past they have both had a working relationship with each other and Woody designed and built the 23 and had his hands in the 25 by Kencraft. Neither builder will cut corners. What does that really do for anyone trying to move their biz forward in a climate of demanding customers.
I have owned 2 215 Kencraft and one 235 Kencraft. I am thinking of looking at the new 24/25 that Riddick is building. The hard question I have now is for the kind of money that this boat will book at why not go and buy the 27 Ocean skiff from Ocean Master?
Has anyone seen the new center console from Riddick?
thanks in advance!
I think Woody has put the center console on the back burner until the market comes back. I saw the boat when Woody was building the boat and it looked great. Woody has a gift when it comes to boats and NO ONE will back his product the way he does. I had a 2290 Bay Runner and it is a great skiff and will have another someday. You need to go to Rocky Mount and see the center console. It is worth the trip and you will get to talk to Woody.
