Default Early Dec. stripers

In years past , I've always been able to catch decent sized stripers( 10 to 20 pounds), around the bridge and on the shoals and in the sloughs to the west of the bridge in early Dec.

Usually my indicator for making the run is when I begin hearing reports of them being caught off the catwalk at night, but I've heard nothing about that this year. I know you can catch them on the shoals, but no fish is worth that risk.

Anybody seen ,heard of, or caught any stripers around the bridge this year? A few of us are thinking about making a run next weekend(10th).

Default RE: Early Dec. stripers

Fished a couple of weeks ago at the inlet. Did pretty well one day and fished Mann's Harbor the second and got totally skunked. Fishing at the inlet bridge has been somewhat slow from what I hear, with most of the fish being taken from the shoals. I have never fished the shoals and on my last trip with my son decided that was not the time. That is a 3 man proposition. Also I was down the weekend of the 2/3 boat capsizings on the shoals. I agree...no rockfish is worth your boat or your life. If you can get outside you might do well trolling up and down the beach.

I called friends who live up there last night and there have not been that many caught off of the bridge yet. The second week of Dec. is usually a great time to go though. I can't go that weekend but am going the following. Let us know how you do.

My crew can't make it this weekend, so we're shooting for Mon-Tues of next week. I hope the wind doesn't blow too bad. I called TW's this morning and was told that stripers are now being caught off the bridge at night and on the south side of the inlet early in the morning from the surf. I'll post a report when I return.
