Default Thanks for Vacation Help

I wanted to say thanks to those who answered my vacation questions about going to Southern Shores, NC.. We (girlfriend and I) drove through the night from RI last Friday, arriving in the outer banks at around 1 Saturday afternoon. After unloading the car (Passat wagon with 2 surfboards,3 fishing rods, and 2 bikes) and taking a nap, the vacation began. I had wanted to do a lot of fishing and really wanted to catch a Red Drum, but it didn't happen. The one morning I got to fish, I decided to do as in Rome so I headed to the Avalon Peir and hauled up Spot. I was kind of dissapointed to travel all that way to haul up southern Scup but oh well. Hurricane Jeanne rolled through so the surfing was decent but the highlight of the trip (by far) was to head to Pirate's Cove and Oregon inlet to check out the boats.

I'll preface everything by saying that in my eye, Carolina sportfishers are by far the most beatifull boats going. I love those things and and am happy to say that my 14' skiff is Carolina Blue and has a good amount of flare (again, for a 14'er). Anyway, I was lucky enough to start talking to a guy at Pirates Cove who was working on a nice Bert 60'? who gave m the ins and outs of the local builders. He seemed to favor Paul Spencer's work the most. Anyway, after I ran out of saliva from drooling so much, I dragged the GF to Wanchese to check out the builders. I guess (without trying to start a riot) I felt like a Muslim returning to mecca. That is all I have to say.

On the Fiday before we left, we went to OI around 4 to watch the boats come in and unload. I grew up working a charter boat on Cape Cod so the 50-80lbs tuna were cool but nothing special, I was used to seing giants. Seeing Wahoo was cool as well, but the GF loved it and proclaimed we should do a charter next time (not thinking that 1 charter costs WAY more than our entire vacation!) I loved watching everyone come in and wheel their 60' sportfishers around like go-karts. Those guys have skeeills!

All in all, it was a great week. I'm working now, but soon go on a fall run fishing bender into sometime tomorrow. Gotta go make a gameplan....

Thanks again!

Default RE: Thanks for Vacation Help

Gotofish,

Glad you could enjoy some of the pleasures of NC. Too bad the Drum would not cooperate! Next time do some asking about the Drum and maybe you can find them.

Tom
