john
ps i live in southport if i can do any leg work for you please feel free to call 910-471-4005. the place above sounds good also, i just know elizabeth and she does a good job
I have a friend that keeps his at the Clewis facility and loves it. He says they the best to work with that he has ever done business with. I to have a freind that keeps his at the marina and had some damage to his motors from the forklift and they would not fix it..... Again I can only tell you what I have heard....
I kept my boat at Clewis' in 2003 (about one space over from Fish Factory's Parker. You are right, they are very nice people and it is convenient. This year however I'm keeping my boat under covered storage at Buddy Causey's Shallotte Point Boat and Camper Storage for the same price ($40/month). Only reason I changed is I thought the new ramp under the Ocean Isle Beach Bridge would be a good place to launch and my son lives in our trailer at Shallotte. Good plan but the Ocean Isle ramp has silted in so fast its impossible to launch an I/O boat there on low tide without getting tons of sand in the drive (no they don't pickup as far as outboards). So we find ourselves trailering over to Southport anyway !
PS-only problem with Clewis' is they don't allow you to use water there to flush motors. There is a good carwash down the road but no spigot to flush from.
hblac, sorry for your ramp problems, but glad to have you back. Will you be using the Wildlife ramp on FishFactory Rd?. I'd like to follow you to the Steeples or someplace similar sometime, if I can keep up w/the Albemarle!
The nicest place to keep a trailer boat o/s currently is the lot behind Southport Marina. Locked gate, washdown area (motor and hull). THT'er Carolina Challenger keeps his 235 there.
I believe the storage is less than $40.00 per month. To correct my above post, Carolina Challenger is the name of a 235 Kencraft owned by THT'er "ssherron'. For particulars, contact him, he's a super guy, and I'm sure he'll be glad to inform.
Is the Clewis storage the same as Big Toy Storage? What good is storing your boat somewhere you cant flush your motor?? I would think to keep boat owners there they would let you flush your motors and wash your boat. Mark

Funny, I was wondering both of these same things as well?
No Clewis' is not same as Big Toy. Big Toy is on Fish Factory Road on the left just before you get to the FF Wildlife Ramp. Extremely nice facility but if I'm gonna pay Dry Stack price I dont want to have to trailer it at all even if it's just a couple hundred yards. Earl & Barbara Clewis place is Woodside Trailer Park on the left on 211 before you get to Hardee's. I know you've seen the boats parked there. Not locked, no gate to open but I never had a problem. As you drive by you'll see Fish Factory's nice 23ft Parker.
Fish Factory,
I went down and looked at the place you suggested behind the Southport Marina (next to PJ's Restaurant). They have a locked gate with access by security card, they even have a wash down pad with sprinklers in the cement pad to rinse down your trailer and boat bottom. You pay annually but for my 24 ft Albemarle it's $665/yr which includes a $100 damage deposit and key deposit. And you never have to worry about getting out of the cape fear inlet like you do some of the others in the area.
Blackbarry's Marine, and a couple of other places on Long Beach Road store boats, but, I don't know, LB Road is getting more and more crowded. I like Cape Fear access. I guess y'all know about cutting around Caswell Beach, about 20 feet off hill for short cut to Yaupon or bait. You can use the first bouy past Bald Head and go straight to Horseshoe, skip the river channel unless you want to fish it. Plenty of places to jump Frying Pan Shoals for Wrightsville area fishing. You'll see an old tide guage that marks the edge of Jay Bird Shoals, after you clear the lighthouse, you can run almost any direction.
Fish when you make the cut around Caswell beach toward Yaupon how far do you go untill you cut back toward the tide gauge and then to the Shoe? Jay Bird Shoals look pretty wide. I have taken the cut plenty of times but always give the shoals a very wide berth. It sure does beat the channel some days. Mucho bait there most of the time.
Stay close to the beach for a pretty good way, I'm guessing at least a half mile. I've seen it at low tide and that shoal could reach out and get you if not aware it's there.
