Default RE: Thoughts about Tournaments

Well here is another outsiders point of view. I fish maybe 2-3 tournies a year. I started fishing these things before most people knew what a king tournament was back in the early 70's and the way the tournaments changed has been for the worst in my opinion. It's all about SKA and sponsors and such not fishing for fun it really has become work. I'm not sure which is right when it comes to check outs and boundaries but I wish some of the commercialization could be cleaned out of the script. What is the answer I don't know, but I wish I did. The friendly atmosphere of the tournaments has changed for the worse before most of the tournament were for bragging rights and a little bit of money thrown in to spice things up. This atmosphere has gone by the wayside and takes away from the spirit of the event. Such a case in point last year at one of the tournies two gentlemen in front of me were chatting about where the fish had been biting I piped up offering some suggestions and you would have thought I'd sunk their boat the night before from the response I got. Whereas before these tournies mainly were small local events with the exception of 1 or 2 therefore the atmosphere was alot more fun. Now its all about the money and the show put on. Maybe there should be limitaion on where to fish and have alot more small local tournaments. There are other ways to increase prize money besides increasing participation the only ones benfitting from more entries are the organizers of the tournament.

I like checkouts. I think a checkout kinda limits you to where you can fish anyway. I still fish non checkout tournaments though.

I fish SKA and local tournaments.* I fish checkout and no checkout events.* I have fished no-boundry and boundry events.* It is my opinion the checkout with boundry tournaments provide*a more level playing field for smaller boats.* But hey...it is only my opinion (which is what this thread originally asked us to provide).
