Default Anyone running offshore this weekend: OCT 1?

May be heading offshore this weekend. Skeeters wore me out last weekend bow hunting deer so I looks like a change of plans. Weather may be finally cooperating. I'm reserving judgement as to drag the boat up to Morehead or down to Southport. Anyone thinking of going this weekend, please chime in. Maybe we can buddy up.

THought about running out of Morehead this weekend. Never fished from there though. Always went out of Wrightsville or Carolina Beach. I have heard that it is only about 35 miles to the stream from Morehead City (big Rock). Not to bad for a 23. Anyway, have you heard what they may be catching. Hoo and Tuna should be there, Right?

THanks for the response

Fred

Fred, Wahoo bite has still been strong. I was talking to Mark (offshore 3114 - above) this morning and he read a post from one of the boats at Ocean Isle Fishing center that caught wahoo, tuna and dolphin recently. Sea surface temps at the big rock looked really good.....also down south at the horse shoe. Course, the horse shoe will be a mad house this weekend with the US Open in Southport....probably a good reason to go to Morehead, possibly Wilmington though. 35-40 miles out of Beaufort Inlet will get you to the 90 ft drop and 44-45 miles will get you to the big rock.

Keep us posted if you decide to go. I'll do the same.

Regards, Matt

Not fishing offshore this weekend I'll be one of the idiots in the US Open. But for the weather it is shaping up to be a gulfstream weekend. If I were not in the tourney I be in the stream huntin the Wahoo. So good luck to you guys if ya go and take pictures give me a shout on 11 or 68 if you're out. Forecast looks to be 2 to maybe 3 and a swell 10mph winds.

I'll be out both Fri and Sat, fishing the US Open. May have to run offshore to find clean water and kings. Anyone heard of any kings near the beach off S'Port or CB?

We are planning on heading offshore friday and possibly Sat if the fishing is good on friday. Will be heading out of Morehead, and probably set out at the 90 foot drop and fish to the rock or north.

Matt,

How long does it take you to get down to Morehead from Winston. I am guessing about 5hrs. from Charlotte. Ballpark?

Also, when fishing out of Morehead, where do you put in the water. I will need to find a ramp as I have not fished from Morehead before.

THanks for the info.

We're going to try a maiden voyage on the 24' Albie this weekend.
The electronics and hardtop are finally complete.
Not sure if we're going out of Masonboro or Morehead yet or how far off we'll try.
What working channel (VHF) do you normally monitor.

I live in Lexington and it is a 4 1/2 hr drive to MHC. You can launch at Anchorage Marina in Atlantic beach and then rent a slip for the weekend, so you will not have to pull the boat every day.

I would think the Jungle, Youpon, and the Wofes would hold kings this time of year of course It really depends on the water flow out of the Cape Fear. We have caught quite a few at 18mile rock this time of year in the past.

Would you guys just SHUT UP! I have a damned convention in Asheville this weekend and another in Orlando the next. Who knows when I'll get back down. Like I said, just shut up!

BTW, you are in the 5 to 5 1/2 hour range once you leave the east side of Charlotte. I ain't even guessing how long to get across town. We make it to Harkers Island regularly in 5 or so pulling a boat from Statesville and we are about 40 minutes west of WS.

For you guys that take hwy 70 from I-40 you may want to try this. Stay on I-40 until you get to hwy 55 near Newton Grove. Take 55 all the way to Kinston. Its about 10 miles further but there are 3 stoplights instead of 54. Just a suggestion.

(Sorry to highjack the thread)...Yellowfin, I left in 87 after graduating from Central Davidson...mom taught at old Cecil school for 25 yrs. and dad was in admin. at DCCC. Didn't realize you were a dentist, too. Enjoyed growing up there and still have a lot of friends there, especially in the Central/High Rock area. One plus about moving...I'm a lot closer to the coast. Good to meet you, Greg.

Offshore, All those places have been good in the past but I'm not sure if the inshore places will be worth trying this year. Lots of fresh water being dumped into the ocean with all the upland rain and flooding. Plus, until today, its been snotty conditions and not many have been fishing. BTW - its slick today,, finally.

I agree, the water will likely be very cloudy nearshore.

Greg, no problem on the highjack. BTW, my old man was a dentist.....retired now. I believe Shag may know of him.

Shag, have fun in Asheville !
