Random Quote: The next great author was John Milton. Milton wrote Paradise Lost. Since then no one ever found it.
Can I summarize this debate since it is now going nowhere at this point.
Irfisher didn't think it was prudent to have the event given the conditions.* Some people agree with him.*
Captain Stanman thinks it was ok to have the event based on the assumption the people that fished it would know the waters around Morehead and plan accordingly.* Some people agree with him.
One poor soul is presumed lost at sea when his captain did not exercise good judgement by trying to run the beach surf.* In most SKA events that would be a violation of the rules so it is never contemplated this would happen.* God have mercy on the dead and the two other team members (their lives must be*living nightmares at this point).* Three friends set out to have fun and one doesn't return - that sucks, period.*
And Capt Stanman, I imagine you aren't*feeling much joy over the outcome and I hope you find some peace of mind.* Your intentions were honorable -*throw a fun event and raise money for charities in your community, you did that.* Remember, nobody was forced to fish and nobody was forced to cause an accident.*
Hey, does anyone know any good looking "Miss America or Playmate of the Year" types that like to offshore fish out of Harker's Island. Oh sh*t, wrong thread sorry. :}

I sure like the sound of it though. Count me in if you find any takers of the Playmate variety for this trip
You come on here and make a comment like a fishing tournament caused a death to a non experienced boater. Oh course I am going to back my fellow tournament directors up. What kind of comment is that to make anyway. What were you tring to get across to all of the people. I guess that you thought that a tournament can't be held unless we ask you if you think its dangerous. Bottomline an accident happened and we all are truley sorry, but there is no one to blame here. It was just an accident man. Don't bring a king mackeral tournament into this.
By the way I am not any form of follower of anything. I like fishing tournaments and I like to put on fishing tournaments. I love the atmosphere and competition they bring. So, I think you have put your foot in your mouth enough for one thread so let it rest.
Note the boaters were not participating in the Onslow Bay Tourney. The decision to pull the plug is a tough one. I've worked with the Raleigh SW Sportfishing Club Tourney for a number of years and we had to cancel one year on advice from the Coast Guard but it was a no-brainer with 30 knot SW winds.
Local boater's body found on Oak Island
By Patrick Gannon
Staff Writer
Vacationers out for a beach walk Tuesday morning on Oak Island found the body of a 26-year-old Southport man missing in the Atlantic Ocean since a boating accident over the weekend.
About 7 a.m., a couple visiting from Six Mile, S.C., found the body of Barry Mathew Greer on the beach near the 1300 block of West Beach Drive, Oak Island Police Chief Tom Johnson said.
“They went out for an early morning stroll and walked up on the body,” he said.
Mr. Greer’s body was found about 25 blocks from where he was tossed out of a 19-foot aluminum boat about 3:45 p.m. Saturday in rough surf near the Ocean Crest Pier in the 1200 block of East Beach Drive.
The owner of the boat, 30-year-old Ryan “Scooter” Aman, of Oak Island, also was thrown from the boat, but he was rescued.
The two were competing in a fishing tournament sponsored by Mr. Aman’s father, Mack Aman, said Officer Ron Robertson of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, which investigates water fatalities.
When he was rescued, Ryan Aman was holding a personal flotation device, Officer Robertson said.
“I would say it saved this fellow’s life, without a doubt,” he said.
Mr. Aman is recovering at home from minor injuries, Officer Robertson said.
“As far as I know, he’s doing fine,” he said.
Officer Robertson said a lengthy investigation would be conducted to determine what happened on the water and whether alcohol was involved. As of Tuesday afternoon, he hadn’t spoken with Mr. Aman. No charges have been filed.
“We’re not just going to assume that everything was kosher” and that it was a simple accident, Officer Robertson said.
Mr. Greer’s body was transported to Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport. His death was ruled a drowning, and the Wildlife Resources Commission did not request an autopsy, Officer Robertson said.
Wildlife commission Lt. Danny Smith said water conditions likely were a major factor in the incident.
“It was too rough,” he said.
At the time of the accident, the Southeastern North Carolina coast was under a small-craft advisory as Hurricane Jeanne was producing high surf. Winds were at 10 to 20 knots, and seas were 6 to 8 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
You're obviously not a tournament fisherman. Most know when and where they can fish safely.
We fished OBOKMT as did 86 other boats, we didn't have any problems because we knew where to safely fish as did the other 85 boats. The only problem I heard of was some local jerk shrimper complaining on the radio about all the boats running the ditch to weigh-in their fish.
MR. Tony Bogue,
There was no need for the hot boats or hot heads. With well over 30 minutes left before check-in closed and less than 1/2 mile to tournament check-in boat, all the "sportsman" were running the ditch in a relatively crowded and narrow area at excessive speeds. And the local shimpers boat was being slammed into his dock by the wakes. His attempt to respectively ask for the weigh-in staff to ask the boaters to slow down was met with surrly rudeness. Although not a no wake zone, all decent boaters know and respect that they are responsible for their wakes. While you say "you heard of ...:, I heard.
And while I am at it, it doesn't and shouldn't take a "tournament" fisherman to know when and where to fish safely.
Well Mr. Rowdy I see you just signed up and made your 1st post and I'm not far ahead of you. Seems like you and one other are here to defend Mr. Edgar Elkins negative post. Also seems like he only post the negative to stir the pot rather than to get something fixed like I do. I question is it the same person who soon rallies to his aid and wonder if all the aliasis are one in the same person.
I didn't say I didn't hear the rants on the radio, I said " The only problem I heard of was some local jerk shrimper complaining". In other words, this guy yelling and cursing on the radio was the only problem that I was aware of for this tournament and believe me if I know of a problem, you would have heard of from me. In fact since GS is no longer on the scene I don't think I have heard of any real problems with trounaments in NC this year. Back to the subject; What fired off this guy appeared to a large boat that left Dudley's and caused a big wake and a Go Fast boat that left that area and buzzed by this guy. The tournament boats happened along and he took it out on us and started the rant.
Yep you are right ternament fishermen are not alone in needing to know when and where to fish safely. Mr. Elkins wanted to point fingers at a tournaments as the cause and being responsible for this tragedy, thus my context was pointed at the tournament fishermen. We all need to know our limits, our boats limits and this is why we will never find a pure definition of a "small craft" because the Coast Guard can't garuntee a boat to seas size ratio to warn of danger. All factors must be considered for each individual situation.
Tony and Capt Stanman, I' nor anyone else named you folks in a public forum, other than questioning why ANY tournament would go on as scheduled with potentialy unsafe sea conditions. That was my opinion, and posting it could provide food for thought. Yet you guys come on here and get personal by using my name, or at least what you think it is, and blasting me. Most of your sheep were new to the forum, and evidently were prompted to post. Pretty unprofessional, to use a persons name, wouldn't you think?
Hello Irfisher,,, Its nice to know that someone else in this world has the same name as I.As I am Mr Edgar Elkins.( HAPPY HOUR)Looks like Stanman needs to know whom he is speaking to upon speaking out of his head with names....Stanman ,, you really show your IQ the more you speak.... How do you feel now by calling Irfisher,, Mr Elkins over the entire internet???Irfisher, I think that Stanman needs to do his homework before calling out names and assumimg who he is speaking too..............
( HAPPY HOUR )/ Mr Elkins
Yep, sounds like Capt Stanman and his followers have stepped in thier own $hit again. Don't understand why they immediately went on the defensive, and called in the sheep to post on here. Well, I guess I do, as all the Capt Stanman had to do was post on his own forum for all his sheep to come to THT to bash anyone that questioned any decision he/they might have made. They did mention specific names, without knowing what they were doing, and questioned the intelligence of me personally. Goes with that turf I guess. I'd think the proper thing would be for Capt Stanman, Tony and the other sheep to post an apoligy. Are they going to? Probably not, as they aren't up to that.
As for the OBO, it's sanctioned by the SKA? If so, the SKA must be getting hard up, and that is one division that about anyone that fishes can get an invite to the Nationals. They had something like 87 entries and thats sanctioned by the SKA? Weekend "pick up" tournys pull more entries here. Whatever, let them have the free ride.
Capt Stanman is well respected, well liked and considered a reel asset, by many NC fishermen. The personal attacks are, for the most part, falling on disinterested ears. Perhaps the 2 or 3 malcontents could PM their "PMS'S"?
Well Mr. Happy Hour, I picked up the name from precious threads in this post. Sorry to miss use your name. But for sure what I described in Mr. lrfisher method of posting still looks the same to me. Then again could Happy Hour be yet another alias of lrfisher?
YOU GUYS NEVER STOP!!! LOL ALL I CAN SAY IS YOU MUST HAVE ONE HELL OF BORING LIFE JUST TO SIT AND BITCH ABOUT SOMEONE THAT YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW.MUCH LESS GETTING NAMES CROSSED.IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON ME POSTING YOU WILL SEE I HAVE NOT POSTED IN ABOUT 2-3 MONTHS.AND HERE YOU ARE POUNDING ( IRFISHER) THINKING HE IS ME..!!!!!GROW UP PEOPLE.
HAVE A NICE DAY
"Well Mr. Rowdy I see you just signed up and made your 1st post and I'm not far ahead of you. Seems like you and one other are here to defend Mr. Edgar Elkins negative post. Tony,
Got no idea what you are talking about defending or stirring or whatever..... My only point was that at 4:30 pm with 30 minutes to go before the check-in boat stopped checking in, we were coasting down the ditch making sure we didn't wake anybody or anything and we had at least a dozen or more boats come screaming by two and almost but not quite three wide. This was not turn 3 at the super speedway. I agree about you with the go boat. But you don't have to be the first one to be the one that gets caught either.... ;)
Happy Hour - I have no idea how those folks put my name with yours, unless thier leader directed them so. No, I don't know you, and if you've noticed the posts from that club, other than Tony has backed off. Yes, they are a NC club with an SKA sanctioned tournament that has never got over 90 entries. Easy to win and get an invite to the nationals.. sure. I think that Tony has been assigned as the forum poster, since Capt Stanman messed in his negative post earlier.
Yea ..... Stan e-mails me every hour to tell me what to say. If u really believe that then I got a bridge I want to sell u. Oh by the way, just for the sake of the discussion lets add to this liable equation. The boat manufacturers must be are liable too (they don't display disclaimers on their boats warning, "It's dangerous to take ur boat into the surf to drop people off" or "Caution boating may be dangerous" or better yet "Warning not small craft warning capable". Lets also hold the brewers of beer liable they cause boaters to loose their common sense & add to the stupidity factor". And one last one let's blame the Coast Guard, they don't patrol the inlets to stop boaters from going to sea if the conditions aren't safe. Enough said ........
The Drum Inlet KMT is this weekend. Irfisher just want to know if its safe enough to have it and if the competition is going to be good? Since your knowledge of SKA regions competition is so great...
