Default What's Morehead weather really like??

The Weather.com says one thing and the beach cam shows something completely different. I know the NE wind lays it flat along the beach, but how far out does the calm water extend? Looks like good albie and spanish water to me. Was anyone there this past weekend? This past week was the first time I had seen surf described as overhead, and one day as double overhead.

Hmmm....20+ MPH NE winds??

Reminds me of that song by Fleetwood Mac, "The Chain." How does it go?

Listen to the wind blow....
Make the long drive....

Fish in the shallows...
for anything left alive.

And when you don't catch fish now,
you have only yourself to blame,
less the locals think you're stupid,
weigh the anchor, store the chain..."

It has been REALLY windy here the last 2 days. It may be calm on the beach but I bet .5 mile off you would already be rocking.

Thanks KMAC, that's about what I figured, although a half mile is more than enough to spanish fish, if the water's clean. I'm usually just clear of the piers, or out to the Cape, or the east side. It would be nice if the Coast Guard would mount a camera at Fort Macon so that we could see the inlet. Just trying to decide when to make the long drive.

And Feralcat, thanks for the song, I think.

THAT is the truth! Or at least put a weather station on a buoy in the shipping channel, or something.

You're welcome. Just being silly. I honestly feel your pain. I was down Sept 9/10/11, and there was a strong NE wind the entire time, and the conditions weren't particularly rough a mile or two offshore, although choppy, but the water was filthy; granted some was run off from Frances. The North river looked like really strong ice tea. Out of the inlet, the water was green and murky.
