WHEN WE ARE AT THE RAMP I WISH MORE PEOPLE THOUGHT LIKE YOU GOOD LUCK AND TAKE PLENTY OF PICTURES
I moved the boat from mhc to wb this year. I felt like the hour shorter drive from my home in holly springs would allow me more opportunity to fish. What I found is that with the traffic and increased distance I travel from the ramp to the ocean at wb I am actually in the ocean less per trip than mhc. It just takes me way longer to drive up 17 To wash the boat down and fuel it up.
I store my boat north of wilminton on 17 and put in at scotts hill. I'm sure if I could afford to store the boat closer to the inlet it would be different. I think I will be moving the boat back to mhc in a week or two for the fall fishing...northeast winds are a good thing oout of mho anyway...
Well, I went to MHC and I had a great time. We woke up around 5:00 and was ready to go at 5:30 when one of my buddies that was bringing the bait realized that it was still in the freezer. He had to leave and go get it which was fine it just took an extra 30 min. We still left the dock at about 10 min after 6. At the dock I decided to head to big 10 little 10. After about 5 miles I changed my mind and set a course for the 14. Just south of 14 we put out the spread. We had dolphin jumping everywhere within 10 min, but we only caught one. Looking back on it I should have stayed in that area a little longer sto try and get some meat on board. I continued to troll towards bigrock thinking we would pick up plenty on the way out there. We trolled for about 3 hours without a knock down. I was listening to the radio and it sounded like no one had had any luck with the hoos so far, but I wanted to try. we got the big rock and trolled for about an hour and a half and everyone on board was asleep except me. I was plugging in the coordinates to the 240 rock when the right outrigger rod stared singing. It was like an alarm clock! Everyone got up and started clearing lines. I grabbed the reel and fought the fish for about 25 min. He made 3 good runs andthen he was in the boat. After that we had 2 more knock downs but no hook ups. The other people that were fishing wanted to go and bottom fish so we headed in and they caught some black bass and trigger fish. I had a great trip with this being my first wahoo!
I forgot to say that the guy that gaffed him for me had never gaffed a fish before in his life. He hit him once and the fish kicked off and he gaffed him mid air at the side of the boat. He did a good job for his first gaff job.
I had always heard that wahoo like a dark bait. So I had 3 dark baits and 3 lighter colored baits 2 with bright bird teasers in front of them. This fish hit a blue and white skirted ballyhoo with a bright yellow bird in front of it. I guess he was hungry.
Thanks THT for picking Beaufort!

Yeah Saturday was great I was able to cruise at 35-40mph all day without any problem. It stayed overcast all day I didn't even break a sweat while fighting that fish. I won't be able to get back out until Oct 2. So I'll be going through withdrawls until then. Then I am taking the boat back home to Mobile, AL to catch some of the endangered snapper.

Are your running from Scotts Hill down to Masonboro Inlet? Why not run out of Rich's Inlet?
