Monty you were right there near us. You weren't in a cat or a Regulator were you? Those were the only two privates we saw Monday morning. Glad you got in them as well. My boat was the TinaLouise.Mark

Default Great Catch!

Excuse my ignorance but I grew up on a lake. LOL When you say action on the 270, what the hell are you referring too? Call me a moron if you want, but I'm trying to learn.

The Loran lines that run perpendicular or almost perpendicular to the coast .. Antiquated yes but a easy quick reference to those that fish the area...Mark

Default Thanks buddy!

I kinda figured it was something like that, but none of my charts had LORAN on them so I couldn't find the damn line. Is there a reference for GPS to Loran #'s? Just curious. and thanks for not treating me as an idiot.

If you were looking at a chart find Diamond Shoals just north of Hatteras NC. The 289 would correspond approximately to 36 07.010 - 75 06.977

The CG were worried, they saw your boat weighed down with that big blue fin and they thought you were taking on water

The coasties have been hammering the boys catching stripers off shore.

The charter guys out there still refer to positioning by loran numbers. My furuno will give either lat lon or loran #s, and I still use loran myself.

Shooter 1972

While some system show both Lat/Long and Loran on their displays, today they are all calculated using GPS as Loran has been shut down

I thought the bluefin season was closed? I read that this was a bad year for the blue fin in our waters Dec and Jan were a bust. I am a bit confused to this late blitz. And can you keep the catch?~JJ~

It's pretty normal around Diamond Shoals this time of year. It's a totally different school from the giants they chase in Dec./Jan. out of Morehead.

Jay right now it is just Rec. fishing no commercial. Recs are allowed one per boat right now. And One per year over 73". The one we boated was 67" and the bigger one we released afterward was close to that 73" mark. There has been a pretty normal good bite in Feb-early April off Hatteras and OI just not many go out as the weather usually sucks pretty bad....Mark...

JJ - yes it is my understanding BF Commercial fishing is closed, but rec's can keep one fish per boat per day under 72" fork length for personal consumption.

We were striper fishing two weeks ago off of rodanthe and landed a 149lb bluefin on a tld 25. Saw birds and thought stripers to our surprise it was a school of bluefin. One guy beside us landed one over 200lbs but did not have a HMS permit so took pictures and let it go. It was great caught it on a mojo. And only two miles off the beach.
