Wondering how you folks in the Carolinas made out with that storm. I was in the OBX in October and a small storm came through and had washed out rt.12 and forced them to close the road. I also noticed driveways of beachfront homes covered with sand. I couldnt believe the amount of errosion that takes place down there even with a mild storm.
We are getting the tail end up here in Rhode Island today. Just wind and rain. But had to cancel my fishing trip for today.
hope you all faired ok during the storm.
A fair amount of flooding here near Beaufort from both the rain and the VERY high tides that were increased by the steady winds. Apparently lost a Rec fisherman who's boat was found overturned at Cape Lookout.
Has anyone heard if the "drain" from Harkers Island to Cape Lookout was changed much by Ida?
Too nasty for me to try and go out these past few days, plus the fishing probably sucks anyway. The wind was from the NE so there shouldn't have been much additional shoaling.
I live in Kill Devil Hills. Oceanfront took a beating in the usual spots and as JP said, Rte 12 got washed out at S-curves on the north side of Rodanthe. Soundside is fine and so are the marinas for the most part. I'm sure there will be a rush to get 12 fixed quickly otherwise the ferry is the only way on-off
Thats exactly where it was closed last month. I stayed in Rodanthe and almost missed my flight home because of the road closure.
After viewing the photos posted , looks like OBX took a shot. All those houses on the water are unbelieveable, but I dont think I could put myself through that every time a strong storm came through.
OBX is for certain one of my favorite places in the U.S..... TO VISIT.
I do plan on moving to NC, but a bit further away from there.
There was a lot of joking and facebook stupidity about this storm, downplaying it, acting like it was nothing. I had to work in it for three days and it was no joke. We've had hurricanes that were less damaging and had far less overwash.
It was amazing to watch people drive their cars around in 12 inches of standing salt water for no reason. Folks who were sight-seeing had the beach road clogged in parts.
