I have friends coming from Florida to visit and plan to take them out Sunday. I hope the water is not too stirred up. My plan is to hit the Jungle first, then some nearby area's. I hope the kings are hungry, my buddy never caught one. If the kings do not cooperate I might have to resort to bottom fishing in order to get the poles to bend for my visitors. I will be on channels 6 and 11. If anyone is out Sunday and find the kings give me a shout. ~JJ~

UNUSUAL BUT I DID SEE A PRETTY LARGE POD OF POGIES OF THE BEACH IN CHERRY GROVE TODAY PROB IN 15 FT OF WATER THE BIG PELicans were diving all in them popping too.... very weird but true close to the cgpeir im gonna try sunday too i thing cigars will still prob get you the most action unless you want the big dogs
I am at my condo in cherry grove this weekend and I have been watching the water from my balcony. I haven't seen any bait yet but this morning the porpoise where feeding on something right in front of my balcony. A few hundred feet in the surf. I plan to pick up a few boxes of frozen cigars today just to be on the safe side and plan to get out in the morning tomorrow. ~~JJ~~

Sunday sucked, I think "Ida" had the kings scattered. I fished the Jungle, 90/90, Christina ledge, 65 ft hole. I had two boxes of cigars but did not even need them I found blue fish at the little river offshore reef and we trolled six rods with very lively blues. All we caught were sharks all day. Again lots of porpoise around and the water was like a lake out there. We resorted to bottom fishing around 1 PM and loaded up on nice blue fish. We switched to live bait rigs and trolled our butts off. Not even a sniff from the kings. Oh well the guys had a little fun with the sharks, better than nothing I guess. ~JJ~

SAME HERE MAN! we didnt even screw with looking for bait and ran straight to christinas.....got out there around 8am, trolled till 1030 with cigards and plugs, with only 1 shark.....I tried calling you on the radio around 9:45, but you may have been out of range?
picked up and headed to 390 around 11am and there was one boat about a 3/4th off of the center gps spot.....I dont believe it was you though? looked like a smaller boat with t-top, and chairs mounted on the bow? anyways.....gave it an hour there and had 1 knock down on a plug, but immediately let go....im guessing something small considering it didnt get hooked with the massive trebles hanging off of it.....
anyways, im guessing the kings have moved offshore for the winter....water temp is down to 63.....what do you think?
I think Ida has them scattered, I think the water is still warm enough. They are getting huge kings north of us in cooler water. Last week they killed them just before the storm in NC. I had the prettiest live bait spread yesterday. I called you on the radio every few hours on 6 & 11. I fished the Jungle from 830 am till 11 am. then I ran to the "Finger" tried there for a few minutes. I stopped at the little river offshore to get bait. I was marking fish all day. I fished Christina and the 65 foot hole and the 90's The porpoise were around as well. Most of the sharks where on the down rigger. I was fishing surface temps of 64.1 to 65.6 . Nada ,not a king in sight. The radio chatter indicated no one was doing anything as far as kings. Oh well, maybe next time. I had a teaser out with flying fish as well. Just one of those days. There were a few boats bottom fishing around the little river offshore so I stacked up on small cocktail blue fish on cut bait and jigs and was sure I would get the kings interested. I even chummed and all that did was bring the sharks around.~JJ~

Your right about the temps, although I have caught kings in a little cooler water. They also seem to stick around the tower year round. I had good temps before Ida, maybe this warm trend will warm the water a few degrees, but you are probably right I will need to run further out to catch the right temps.~JJ~

OIFC found the kings Monday, but they had to go to the Atlantic ledge to find decent temps. High sixties low seventies at the ledge. In hind sight I should have ran there it was only a short run from the Jungle.
I heard the king bite was dead Sunday no matter where you were fishing, and the water had really cooled from the storm. ~JJ~

if i was you id find warmer water, the other week we laid into all 20+ lbs kings at the atlas tanker up north and we found them in 78 degree water, with the storm they have pushed way offshore, need to find the 70+ temps and some structure and it should be one, btw all of our fish came off the downriggers 50+ ft down on hank browns with pink/mylar w/ ciggies
