Question Murrells Inlet

Hello, I am considering a trip to the area around mid February. Should I bring my spinning outfit that I use for bluefish & stripers during the summer on the Massachusetts north shore or am I dreaming? I don't want to be freezing. Do the head boats fish during Feb.? tnx...Ray

I do not fish much in Feb. its too cold for me. I think a few head boats bottom fish out of Calabash. As far as fishing the surf if the weather is warmer than normal you might get some fish from the piers. January sometimes has bluefin tuna passing through the area. I might give that a shot. But I think they are gone by Feb. You might try the marshes. Good luck, JJ

Jay, when the bluefin run ,about how far offshore do you have to go approx.?? Sometimes here in the NE, the bluefin footballs run as close as half mile or so off the shore,-----but not too often> Thanks

Bluefish.. Stay in touch if you want. We fish until the wind stops us from getting out... usually around the end of Feb. We can catch wahoo, tuna and Mahi in the stream. Last year, the end of Feb we hook up and landed a big white marlin. No telling what you can hook up with out there that time of the year.. It is like I-95.. stuff traveling up and down all the time.. You can catch a ride with us if the wind will allow. The end of Feb is when I put the cover on for a few months.. We Bluefin fish as well here somewhere around the last 2 weeks in Dec till the first 2 weeks of Jan is when they usually run.. Maybe 12-20 miles off shore or so..

Jim

fishing kinda sucks in Feb... Bluefin at 3 mile? Good luck with that! Don't think i would waste my trip going less than 25-50 miles.

shoot me an email when you come down... i usually have room on the boat, finding the right day in Feb. is hard enough. It is usually cold and blowing out.
