Default Spot fishing questions......

I was asked to take out my brother in law and his wife and son Friday for some spot fishing.
My wife's family love to eat spots. I have never fished for them and want to make sure they get a bunch. I always go offshore and troll and very rarely mess with bottom fishing of any kind. So I need a crash course on everything, tackle, hooks, weights, best bait and I will be fishing near little river inlet. Where should I anchor? Any help so I get them some fish would be great! Thanks ~JJ~

Basic bottom rig with small hooks and blood worms. Last time I went we used an artificial blood worm that seemed to hold up better. Plus the artificials don't bite like the real ones do. Where to go I can't help you with. But in general look for a conglomeration of other boats in the channel as spot fishing is rather popular this time of year.

Jay - last week end, as you turn right out of the water way to head to Bird Island they were around the second red can. In the curve.. any tackle store will have the double hook bottom rig with a weight. Shrimp or blood worms will work well. Again - on the location, that was last week end.. they run through and then are gone.. may be a little late...
Like was said before.. look for the boats on the hook.

Second what lumberman said. Saw them there and also at channel marker across from Calabash X-roads on Saturday. Had a friend fish there and said he caught nearly 100.

I was at the beach house in Cherry Grove last weekend. (Not far from Bird Island) did not get a chance to go out in the boat but fished on the dock on the back of the house and we caught spots all day and night long. Found the best time to be 30 min before low tide and 30 min before high tide is when they were hot hot hot. Could not keep the lines in the water. Bottom rig with blood worms and a smaller hook worked great.
