any one who might have info on a boat slip in Oriental area, or Beaufort area you help would be appreciated. we live in the piedmont but are buying a boat at the coast and looking for an affordable slip(preferably $150 or less) to keep her in. I have been looking online and am not having much luck finding slips period and much less ones that are in our price range, at this point i am unsure where else to look.
Most slips charge by the foot and extra if your over 14 foot wide cause that moves you to a large slip. 36 foot at the Sheraton Yacht club in New Bern NC 10 years ago was a lot higher than you are looking at in prices.
Call Radcliff Marine 252-943-3923. If they can't help you in the area your looking for no one can.
Not sure about slips in Washington. Do'nt know that area but maybe someone will post some numbers for you.
Edenton Marina has open slips now. a bunch of them and its sheltered marina. Covered also but don't know the price. Elizabeth City the old boat yard is now building a heck of a lot of slips but the boy is slow and its been a 10 year project that I know of. There are slips open here also but your best bet is to take a weekend and ride from New Bern to VA and see. Your 150 dollar range is going to be hard to find near the coast. Think Elizabeth City is the cheepest and I'd say its higher than that now. Sorry.
It would be very helpful to know how big your boat is, length and width. As a point of reference, my boat is 60' x 18' and I am paying 500/mo + electricity in downtown New Bern. In general going rates at marinas seem to be 6-8 a foot a month once you get in from the coast. There is Bridgeton Harbor a big new, mostly unoccupied marina in Bridgeton that may offer you something on the cheap, I know some on-a-budget sail boaters who relocated there from Bridgepoint in New Bern (usually an economical place itself). McCotter's in Washington might have something too. As an absentee owner, I suggest you look for places with liveaboards around to look after things.
Another alternative is to find a dock behind someone's house, which is popular in Florida, but you don't see many ads for them here.
the boat is small, 25 x 8 x 4. we found a slip for 100 a month and though that we had an arrangement this morning, but i just got an email saying someone else sent him a check and that it is no longer available
the only slips i know of in that price range are in swan quarter, nc. the in shore fishery is good, but to get to the ocean you are looking at 25 miles. the sound really blows up in the afternoons coming back from ockracoke, the nearest ocean access, the trip back isn't brutal but its usually not comfortable on most days. call mitchell newman at 252 926 3801. he has covered and uncovered slips available, very affordable.

Just a thought if you have a truck an a way to get it to a landing these marinas will let you store then in there lots a lot of times if you have a trailer, for way less than a slip. Just a idea.
Fortunately, you do have a few options. Unfortunately, $150 will be a bit on the low side. For a boat your size you could do a dry stack in Swansboro (*edit* Casper's?) or at Portside Marina in Morehead City. All you do is call ahead and they'll have your boat in the water for you when you arrive. Spooner's Creek has some "lift slips" available and are very reasonably priced last time I checked. Up on the Neuse, you *could* try Northwest Creek Marina across the river from New Bern. That's where we are. Pretty good facilities, but the best thing going for it is that it is very well protected and has the east coast's best dockmasters. Period. At $6.75/ft, it's just above your budget, but worth calling about. (*NOTE* We are nearly... if not totally full... but Bud and Dawn may be able to find room for you for a little while. Lots have fled south for the season.) Places like the New Bern Grand (formerly the Sheraton) are ok, but are pretty expensive for what you get. Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. There is a new place down river beyond Oriental called River Dunes. We visited there last month. It's a new, and very large, development tract that, because of the market challenges in the past year is slow to come along. But they are actively looking for residents. It's a very nice and secluded marina with lots of extras in a very well protected marina.
thanks for all your info and advice! we've checked out a couple of the marina's mentioned and we found a couple of slips in the classified ads for around 100 and are currently looking to see which one is the best fit for us and the boat.
