Default Crocker Marine closing

I heard a couple of days ago that Crocker was going to close down. The greatgrady guys seem to confirm it. All locations to close by the 31st.

Sad news, in my dealings for service, the guys at Morehead Marine treated me professionally.

This is true, with the current economy and the fact that Kay passed away, Newland decided to let it go.

When I drove by this Thursday there were several boat transporters lined up to pick up boats, so guess its true.

I cannot understand why Newland did not sell the business instead of just closing it. It has a great reputation, sells two great brands of boats (GW & Parker) and has an excellent service department. The name has been there since the beginning of time so it must have a good following.

It seems like a terrible shame to me and a waste of a well known business.

That is the pits!! I've owned three Grady's and even though I've never bought one new from them, Morehead marine has always treated me like their best customer. Sad Day for Grady Nation. "RAINMAKER"

Unhappy

That truly sucks! Crocker's had a good reputation and lot's of satisfied customers. I hope someone can get it together and try to fill that void.

They could be. You know that they dropped Bertram and Bert had to buy all of the Bert boats in stock back. MM has some cash to play with. It was in the fine print, Bert couldn't sell direct or they would give MM the opp to opt out of their contract and also have to pay for the inventory. Well, Bert tried pulling a fast one down in Miami and got their hand caught in the cookie jar. That was a golden egg in this economy for MM to have all of their inventory bought back..... nice..

Kim and Richard in service always were 1st class and never hesitated to take care of me and my parker...i'm going to dearly miss them.

Any idea where the parker dealership is going in Morehead - maybe back to Radio Island???

Default Where to go

Morerehead Marine serviced my boat (which I did not buy from them) and Yamaha outboard for the last 5 years. Great timely service, fair price, and NEVER any indication that since I hadn't bought new from them I had to wait at the back of the line. They even sent a "Thank You" card when I paid my service bill. A little thing but sure made me feel like they appreciated my business! I will now have to search for someone new to go to for service and will sorely miss them and am a little nervous. The boat is in Swansboro. Anyone have any input or recomendations? I will actually need a small warranty repair this spring along with the annual service.

Just got a "Docklines" e-mail from GW. Checked for NC dealers on their locator and this is none. Wonder how long that will last?

How bad are things when a NC builder has no NC dealer lined up to replace Crocker's? No one would believe it just a few years ago.

I heard yesterday that the Civic Center boat show in Raleigh, Parker has leased 9000 sq ft. You may see Grady and Parker start selling their own boats without a dealer network, factory direct.

Default Goodby Old Friend

I knew Kay since 1969 when the only thing he sold were Chrysler outboards and a few off-brand boats out of an old building across the traffic island from his current location. I heard my father, who never had anything good to say about anyone, reflect once back then that it was a shame that Kay only had a dealership for Chrysler because he was such a likeable and honest person - If could ever acquired dealerships for some decent equipment, he would do well. He bought a Chrysler outboard from Kay and although it was a piece of junk, Kay stood behind it and continued to build his business on the philosophy of integrity. I was driving past Morehead Marine before sunrise yesterday morning – It was sad to see the entire showroom empty. The Crocker organization will be missed.
