1mile to 50 miles....you pretty much are covering the spread from the beach to the stream with all those fish......you can catch kings on the beach....dolphin ive caught as close as 8 miles (some people may have caught them closer).....wahoo / tuna about 30+....sailfish around 20-30miles....marlin (never caught one), but anywhere around the stream youll catch em I suppose....
doesnt sound like a bad day.....wonder how big that marlin was
only God knows for sure lol.
I want to go get some hoos... where should I go? (pretty new to running my own boat offshore in Charleston)... and anything I should know regarding lures, bait, etc? I know they prefer fast trolling
i fish mostly just a litlte north out of georgetown / sunset beach....but id say go to the gtown hole, and youll have a field day if the fish are biting.....im more of a live bait troller.....and they will knock the hell out of pogys behind the boat, but you may want to pull some ballyhoo to cover more ground....do you know how to rig ballyhoo? if not, you can find stuff online pretty easily of how to do it efficiently.....in sure some local charleston boys be able to chime in and recommend some better spots....but pretty much anywhere 40-60miles off your golden

yeah I trolled ballyhoo last weekend. Never done live baiting.. thats much slower right?
oh yeah...for sure...basically it depends by boat, but JUST in gear is plenty fast for live bait.....depending on wind, tide, motor, you may have to adjust....but if your baits are twirling or skipping along the top, you are going to fast, you want to be going just fast enough that the bait cant swim past you...haha......you can look up how to tie live bait rigs....but basically you just need 60lb AFW uncoated soft strand wire, a 30-75lb swivel....and 2 or 3 size 4 (4X) eagle trebles spaced about 2-3 inches apart depending on size of the bait you troll......you can just tie a figure 8 knot (plenty strong) to hold the swivel and trebles.........i personally use 61lb malin hardwire with a haywire twist if im going "meat fishing".....these rigs are a little more hardcore, but can keep wahoo from biting through the leader sometimes......they are notorious for chomping through softwire....anyways, there are a million different configurations you can use, add skirts or more hooks for ribbon fish/spanish/ blues, etc.........private message me or email me with any questions...
