Caught two on a grey ghost stretch 25, two on live blue and four on a new bait we are working on. Lost over 7 to heavy drag, I personally had one take 200 yards of measured line break my 40# wire king rig with 6# of drag. All caught within 8 miles of the inlet (Oregon Inlet) in 55' to 75' of water. Covered alot of ground looking for them.

we are thinking of making the drive back out next week. How long will the kings stay around? and are you just trolling in that depth range or are you targeting structure?

First time fishing for kings, still learning. Reports are the fishing should get better showing catches out of Hatteras. We fished a couple of the fish havens (one 55'-60' other 60'-70') with structure and the platts slough just E of the inlet 55' -75' fishing the edge. Hope this helps as each location produced, we just had tough wind making a few short days. Another bait we didn't have was the Williamson Bait-o-matic, I will have a few before next Oct.

Have you had luck with the 30's? The grey 25's out fished the live blues for landed fish, pulled a nice one off 20' behind the boat due to heavy drag needed to pull the 25,s @4.5mph (lack of experence/instuctions angler). Back drag off before you touch the rod at strike. Did manage a couple at slower speeds 2.5-3mph.

Haven't even fished them yet.. was waiting for Cheaspeake this winter on the stripers. I will wire them up for the stream hoping for some Wahoo action in another month or so. I wanted to try them out on the kings but couldn't figure out how to pull them and keep the drag where i needed it to be..
