Default Big Whiskey King!

The wife and I decided to do some king fishing saturday......we werent entered in the US Open, but were joking before we left that with our luck we will probably end up catching a big king.....

fished out of little river, caught him in 50ft of water on a half dead pogey in the propwash.......saw him come up right behind the bait for about 5-10 seconds before striking...

normally i dont keep kings this large unless im tournament fishing, but he was foul hooked and in a death spiral under the boat for about an hour....by the time my wife could get him to the boat, he was nearly dead and past the point of reviving.....was a fun day of fishing, and hopefully will find another one this size for the rumble in the jungle...

BIG, What's your name? Nice fish what did he weigh? Maybe you should have been in the open!!!
I might be doing the Rumble if the weather looks good. Maybe I will see you there. My boat is moored at HarbourGate C-17. I monitor channel 6 & 11. Good luck . It will be me "Jay", my mates, Josh and Jamie on my boat. Come by for a cold one friday afternoon if you are there. ~JJ~

Always is, its always fun though to take a few friends, drink a few beers, and catch some fish. A little competition just makes it a little more interesting.

Big Whiskey,
I was wondering if that was you on that Dark Blue Sea Hunt Saturday morning? We went out of Little River and were fishing the Open. We were on a Light Blue 22ft Scout and following Tres on the Carolina Saltwater. Not running to fast because it was a little chilly, but I saw this Sea Hunt with a 150 go past us and make the turn and head out. The three of us caught bait on Sunset beach side of the jetties. Wish I had found that fish. We fished the 90's because just a little big early and did not feel like the run to the Jungle. We caught 6 kings biggest was just 12 pounds. I would trolled all day with out a bite for one that was that big. Great fish! Next tournament for me will be the Fall Brawl. I have 21ft sea hunt and hey maybe if I had been on my boat would have caught bigger fish. Always a crap shoot good luck guys in the Rumble.

Was this the only king of the day for you, or were there smaller ones caught there as well?

mac, im sure it was us if that was yall waiting at the sunset beach bridge to open around 8.....i didnt notice the names of the boats around us....other than one had GPS store on the back of the leaning post....our hull is black (but im sure it could look dark blue depending on how the light is shining off of it)......it was just my wife and I, and I had on the yellow foul weather gear....

we caught about 8 or 9 kings.....another one close to 30lbs, a few low to mid 20s, and a few teens but nothing under 15......we were just on them pretty thick i guess....the 3 largest ones hit solo, the rest were in paired or triple knockdown "schooly kings"......just a good day fishing for us....it was my birthday, so maybe i deserved a fun day of fishing...haha

Big,
Yeah sorry called it blue I have a hard time with dark colors wife has to sort my socks blue and black. Good looking boat though. Yeah you kind of came by us moving pretty quick fast 150 you sure that isn't a 225 with 150 cover? HAHA Maybe I will run into you again down there I am usually on channel 11 boat is Light Blue Sea Hunt I refuse to call it Carolina Blue. Name of it the Natalie/Claire after my daughters who are begging me to take them out in the ocean King fishing. Wife says not yet they are to young. Good luck guys this weekend. Jetty Jay I see a lot of your post as well I do more reading than posting. Don't feel I have caught enough big fish to post. But hope to see you guys at the Fall Brawl!

hah no worries mac.....ive thought many dark blue hulls were black and vice versa, i just wanted to make sure it was us you were talking about.......yep, that F150 is a workhorse on the back....with much debate, im running a 19" yamaha performance prop that seems to give the boat a little more top end speed than other props.....

yeah, no kids for us yet, but ill have them out there king fishing as soon as they are able to hold a rod, haha....we will be fishing the rumble and fall brawl, so give us a shout if youre out there.....we tend to keep radio mostly, but 6/11/tournament channels are what ill typically monitor....

Big - Sweet Video and a good day of fishing indeed. Hapy bday and best luck this weekend.

Toes Up/Richard - how did you do in the Open? I was hoping to hear you put a big one in the boat using a spanish for bait! I probably jinxed you by putting my non fish catching paws on that bait! Did not realize you are from the Burg - I married a girl from Laurinburg -father in law still there but we don't visit much as I usually just blow through on the way to the beach. Good luck this weekend - Hope to see all yall around the Marina soon, preferably with nice fish on my boat for a change.

Take care,

Tim
