Default Flounder gigging lights

Can you help?

I am trying to rig a set of lights for my Baby Cat boat.

I wanted to use the Brinkman Starfire 2 halogen lights similar but I cannot find them a similar but more expensive site is below

http://www.fishinglightsetc.com/Flounderlight3.html which has some good examples on how they use the small halogen bulbs for boat or hand held.
Brinkmans are a lot cheaper. 

Is a good thread with some pictures from the 2Cool Texas fishing board also showing some guide boats and on the second page some other ideas but may be an over kill for a do it a few times a year person.

Can I ask what has worked for you to have some flounder lights that attach and detach quickly to your boat to flounder with?

Any good pictures of your boat set up or hand held flounder lights?

Jim

I was thinking about a couple of C-clamp attachments similar to a sea striker flounder set up with some of the Brinkman Starfire halogen lights similar to the first html above. I have a little Honda 2200 to run the lights.

I use these....bolt the base on your bow and the light is easy to take on/off.

Have you looked at using LED lights from Scarabchris? I am thinking their low power requirements would eliminate the need for a generator. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea. In my case I already had a 2000 Honda and it is so quiet that we talk over it and listen to the radio without any problems. If I was starting out fresh I'd give the LED's a look.

I am trying to do this as cheaply as possible.

I wold use the c Clamps and the Brinkman lights like one of the setups on 2 cool fishing but you cannot find the lights. I was going to build my own two on c-clamps Though I may try the electrical sh op for light canisters similar tow what striker uses.

Noticed that couple of the people here used the shop lights but not sure that or submersibles are better.

Underwater lights work much better...cheapest route by far is build your own or buy the Sea Striker clamp on lights.

I agree underwater are best you don't get a reflection off the water. I've used Sea Striker alot but the best I've had I made out of a 4" PVC 90 with a sealed beam in it and the other side of the 90 reduced down to 3/4" and clamped to bow. I had mine on hinged brackets so I simply raised them out of the water when underway. I used 4200 to seal the bulb to the PVC. Hope this makes sense I don't have a picture.

Marvin 177,

Would you be better off with a 4" 45 instead of the 90? Just wondering, thinking about building a rig.

edit to add: I wonder what time you could get running two headlights off a decent marine batt.

10 bucks for 2 bends
20 bucks for 2 hi beam headlights
5 bucks for 8 feet of 3/4
5 bucks for 2 joints
5 bucks for wire
45 total

I've got the glue, solder, clamps and 5200

Thought I would resurrect this thread with a light I made for someone in NC. Weighs in at under 2lbs ,completely waterproof self contained with 18 LED's in the head and runs over 2 hours on a single 9 volt battery. designed as a wading light.these pictures do not do this light justice at all

Default Gig-a-Bright Lite

I will try to take some night shots tonight in the canal.
light is approx 52" long ( I can make it any length)
It can be configured to hold a max of 3 9 volt batteries which will give you over 7 hrs of light
18 LED's in a custom array. The LED's are sealed and waterproof and the battery chamber has an O-Ring seal which makes this unit completely waterproof and with the exception of the connector for the batteries there is no metal used in the construction which will also make it corrosion proof as well

Bumster:Did you make the light yourself or did you purchase it somewhere? If you made it would you pass along how?

My own design and describing how I made it would take awhile. I am willing to build and sell them. My focus was to make it bright, light in weight and waterproof/corrosion proof. some of the parts had to be turned on a lathe to get the fit and the sleekness of the design and the LED's are individual and then used a template I designed to set them in a custom array which I will have shortly in the form of a custom designed PC board that will fit in the head. Not really a DIY project to have it look the way it does.

rails and lights are removable (set screws) lights were $9 each at Lowes, 500watt replaced with 300watt bulbs (does not load up the gene as bad) Honda Eu2000. We can see down 10' in clear water and 30' out to the side on flats
