I've stopped in over there a time or two and doesn't appear to have near as much traffic as this site. I also check out the tower website as well. It seems that most of the convesation on the tower site pertains to fishing around the corner from us. But I do like that "Reefcast". That and the NOAA site make it pretty easy to determine whether I'm fishing or not.

Tight lines all.

You will be surprised at how many rods you can run efficiently if you tighten your spread up. Tuna fishing I like as many rods as I can run and all have a hook. The trick is really what you do after the bite. Rod management is the key. Every rod has its place in the spread. Certain rods for different positions on the boat and they are only moved to the front or brought all the way when it is a huge fish or a billfish. In the videos you will always see us working the rods reeling them in a little letting the back out and changing rod holders...Mark

Hey JJ,

Been a good year especially for Mahi.

Little "funny" for Long Bay for the Kings maybe. First the Pogys were a little late and the good King bite on bigger fish seemed to last only a few weeks. The Pogys seemed to really pack the ICW, canals (and everywhere else they could hide inside) shortly after they hit the beaches.

Most of the summer the bigger Kings seemed to stay out deeper or off further than the 90's from what I heard. Most of my good kings have come from 75 feet or more this summer.

Things are changing very fast now, however. That little breath of a cold snap we had about August 23rd along with huge tides sent most of the pogys out the inlets in a hurry and the storm/current, dirty water scattered them out pretty bad when they got outside.

Recent reports say they have regrouped near the beaches in some huge schools. The Kings should begin chewing quickly. People were absolutely killing the Spanish about two weeks ago all along the inlet mouths.

Inside the redfish and flounder are already turned on, even the specks are already biting decent.

Factor in (also) the lack of tropical activity and now this cool air which is a little early and of long duration.

I think it's shapeing up to be a great early fall bite, especially the first day or two when that wind moves back toward the SW. I'm expecting the 90's and Jungle to lite up good in a few days.

The gulf stream pushed about as far off as I have seen about three weeks ago. You had to get to 1000+ feet of water to touch the edge of hot water..excepting a few offshoots which weren't really much change and the offshoots moved east like rockets due to a huge "nearer" shore current we had for about two weeks.

If other are like me, we are looking for the steam to get stabilized so we can go a hooing and a billing. Havent looked at SST recently, but as screwed up as it was, maybe another couple of weeks to get the stream edge back on the shelf?

Hey JJ, you can't catch fish sitting on the hill, but hope you got things ready including getting all healed up. Go get em!

I am ready, bum ankle and all. I limp a bit but can manage ( when it comes to fishing! ) I plan to take Marks advice and tighten up the spread. Tomorrow I might get out despite the forecast. It is the only day I can get away until late next week. I was hoping for a south / SW wind tomorrow but it looks like a NE.
Great observation of the current fishing situation, you summed things up pretty well.
I bet the SST is in a nice range for kings, If the water is crappy I might just hit the 90's tomorrow. If I get out I will post over the weekend. ~JJ~

Jetty

Never got to say thanks for the invite when I was down south. I wish the weather would have cooperated too. The wind followed me back to nj and has been blowing NE for a week. I will be down again and I hope both of our legs will be better and we can get out. We had very good bluefin fishing up here, we will see what happens after the blow
