Default OBX in August

Hey all, My family and I are heading to the outer banks august 22nd for a week. I'd like to get my father out fishing a couple of times. I am really looking for info on the area, as I have never been. We are staying in Nag's head(waves-I think) and I wasn't sure which inlet was closest. I'd like to do some inshore fishing and possibly an offshore trip as well depending on how many other people vacationing with us are willing to go.

Does anyone know which inlet is closer? Any reccomendations on charter boats in the area? I have checked the websites of the sponsors of this site and would prefer to give them my business-just not sure which way to go!
Also is there any action to be had from the surf? I'll be bringing some surf gear to pass the time and see what I can catch.

I appreciate any info anyone can pass along.
Thanks,
Chad

Nags Head and Waves are not in the same place. Nags Head is right at (just above) Oregon Inlet and Waves is well below Oregon Inlet. Someone will chime in with the exact mileage but Oregon Inlet has to be closer to Waves than Hatteras Inlet (unless my memory is just shot). Also, you have some areas of slow driving to get down to Hatteras Inlet from Waves. I fish out of Oregon Inlet, but for inshore, I think the Hatteras inshore area is probably better. There are not a ton of inshore guides around Oregon Inlet. You can check the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center website and the Pirates Cove website for charters.

Thanks Law Dog, You're right we are staying in Waves. On google maps the address says Nag's Head(near waves)! We are just below rodanthe. I figured we were closer to oregon inlet but wasn't sure about the driving distance vs. time. Thanks for the reply and I'll check those sites.

I recommend one of the charters out of Pirates Cove. Tell the captain you're interested in going after white marlin.

Hydro, I'd love to get a white!!!! I don't think anyone that is going to go on the charter with me(besides my Father) has any offshore experience or any interest in getting into it! I have yet to catch a White Marlin in Jersey-not that We have targeted them too intensely but we have tried!

How is the marlin bite down there in august?

If the bite comes at the right time and is hot this year, you won't find a better white marlin bite in the world than oregon inlet, nc
