Default OIFC latest report......

I always check the reports coming out of Ocean Isle. Since I fish much of the same waters.
Capt. Brant and the others are always willing to steer you to productive spots.

According to his reports, the last few days have slowed a bit on the king bite.
The pogies have not been quite as plentiful either.
Mahi are still hanging in the 65/70 foot range along with a few sails showing up.
He attributes the slow down to two factors, wind direction and the kings generally slack off a bit this time of year. The next few days should give an indication of the bite.

Capt. Brant McMullen and his wife are expecting a baby boy in about three weeks.
Congrates!
When I first started king fishing out of Little River, It was OIFC reports and tips that put me on my first successful king fish hookups. Up until I started reading the OIFC website reports, hot area's, weather forecast etc. all I ever caught was dog fish.
The OIFC site is a great tool for the new comer to get his feet wet.~ JJ~

You're right on there Jay. All of the folks at OIFC have always been greatly helpful whenever I've stopped by, and they are straight shooters as far as fishing reports as well.

I'm headed down later this week and hope the wind lays down enough to get out and look for some of those wayward kings and mahi!

We went out of Lockwood Saturday and it was quite sporty. Fished inside 8 miles ended up with one king about 18lbs...Mark

I heard Saturday was tuff out there. I might venture out midweek if my foot gets a little better. I bought a orthopedic ankle brace and it helps. I can walk a little on my foot now but it hurts like hell. I read that the water is murky and that the fishing is slow, I should probably just wait out this injury while the bite is off a bit. I plan to be fishing upstate august 8-15 in the French Broad river. I doubt I will be able to wade much in that very slippery river. I might have to fish from the shore line. I always waded in the past. But it would be real easy to destroy my ankle at this point, getting it caught between rocks.Oh well, I will just have to use my head and not take any chances with this foot. ~JJ~

Yeah Jay, you don't want to take any chances on missing out on the fall bite. With all the pogies that have been around this summer, I'll bet it's going to be a great fall.

I'm down for a week starting Wednesday evening, but looks like it's going to be pretty choppy as of now. I'm going to try to work on some flounder and trout fishing inside and sneak out whenever I can. I REALLY want a mahi but it's not looking good for me on that front at least for now.

Going to whet my appetite with some fresh water stripers in the morning. ;-)

I just looked at the near shore forecast out twenty miles, It does not look good this week.
It could change, I read that the charters out of OIFC canceled todays trips. So maybe I have an excuse to let my ankle heel. By next week I think I can handle a trip to the 90's. Or the Jungle if the seas are flat. This might be a good time to fish my pond, The bass are getting big now. And I can cast from my golf cart. It is not blue water but what the heck!~JJ~
