Default Ethanol fuel

I'm looking for places in Guilford County that carry non-ethanol fuel but have had no luck. Does anyone know of any stores or marinas that are carrying non-ethanol fuel? Thanks

T Roberts,

There are a few people working right now on a site and it will be up, hopefully within a week. This site will have place for everyone to list the stations thet are selling real gas and those that are selling e-10 or worse e-15.
As soon as this is ready it will be up here.
For now maybe someone else has a station for you in Guilford and can post it for you.
I do know that Ocean Isle Fishing Center has real gas. ( Brunswick County)

Hope this helps some,
Butch

Tideline Marina's Bill tells me that all of the fuel that is commonly distributed has ethanol. I've noted at many pumps they don't even put stickers on telling if it has it, and how much is in their gas.
If anyone in the Wilmington area has had problems with their engines traceable to E-10, WECT News is working on a story about that. raefordbrown@wect.com

What type engines are having problems? 2 or 4 stroke? I am curious. I just got a new boat and I appreciate this forum bringing it to everyone's attention.

Two-strokes for sure. I have two Johnson 175's that have had extensive damage. I pumped 6 gallons of water from my fuel tank (it had about 100-125 gallons in it...80 gallons had just been added). Do not let your boat set up with fuel in the tank. If you do, then pump it out BEFORE starting your engine(s).

Mechanic told me to keep as little gas in the boat as possible. Just enough reserve to get you to the fuel doc to get fresh gas....every time.

4 places in the Morehead City area claim no ethanol. Haven't checked for sure.

Dudley's (Swansboro) they told me they didn't
Fort Macon Marina, mechanic said they didn't
Morehead City dock where the dive boats are, cashier said they didn't
Shell station across from the Sheraton, has signs out front

Raeford,
In North Carolina stations are NOT required by law to label their pumps if they sell Ethanol.
That is one of our goals is for the labeling of pumps to be mandatory so we know what we are filling up with.
Thanks,
Butch

Default respond to your gas question!

Hi my name is John Neff I own and operate 3 gas stations in the Greensboro area I use SHELL branded gas and gas only. I have been notified from Shell that ethanol is not to be used in 2 cycle engines. So what do boaters and landscapers do?? Most people have string trimmers, chain saws etc.
Did you know blended ethanol gets less gas milage? Did you know North Carolina is one of a handful of states that the station does not have to post if the fuel contains ethanol?
The Greensboro fuel terminal carries both regular gas and ethanol I looked into having blended fuel at my 3 sites My cost is 3 cents higher on the ethanol. However there is a 4 cents per gallon federal rebate on the ethanol. Honestly, for one cent it is not worth the risks to my customers.
I fish out of Little River SC and always top my boat off with my gas before I leave!!
Good Luck and tight lines! John

These are my locations

Verify any stations claim of non-ethanol fuel by testing it yourself for alcohol content. This site explains how: http://www.ehow.com/how_2143193_test...l-content.html
You don't have to use a fancy graduated cylinder like he does; an olive jar will do. EAA also sells an alcohol test kit for a reasonable price that includes everything you need.

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty close to the station on 220.
Does the Stabil Ethanol treatment additive work? Are boaters still having problems related to the fuel when using the additive?
Thanks

John, thanks for the info. I work close to exit 211 and live up near Stokesdale. Did your station used to be a Phillips 66 in the past years?

I've been looking for a non-ethanol station for a while now. Just found out last week that the Exxon at Hwy 68 and I-40 is presently E-10 free, but probably will change over within the next 6 months or so. The Shell Quality Mart at Oak Ridge went E-10 a month or so ago. I talked to a tanker driver who said that E-10 free stations around Greensboro are becoming very scarce. It's really good to know that you plan to stay E-10 free and care about your customers.

You've got a new customer

Thanks
Gordon

Stabil and Startron can help but do not eliminate ethanol related problems.
