Default Corolla (Outer Banks) Surf Fishing

I'm heading to Corolla, NC, for a family reunion the first week of July. We are renting an ocean front house and I plan on fishing as much as possible.

Can anyone help me out with some tips as to what my fishing options are around there? I doubt that we'll charter....I plan on just fishing off the beach. Will there be bait to throw a cast net on?

Any help would be aprreciated. I have not been to the outer banks since I was a kid....and I've never fished up there.

Thanks!!

No bait this time of year here, Walk the beaches looking for your holes, i have been catching keeper flounder on gulp shrimp in new penny, and an occasional puppy drum. Blue fish will be thick further out on sting silvers.

If you fish bait, fresh shrimp, or sand fleas. in the first slough on high tide.

Early morning and late afternoon....b/c in between its crowded!

If you have a 4 wheel drive you may want to head to Cape Point in Buxton at least once, it can be a site to see. You will need to check and see if the beach is open first, try calling Frank&Fran's or Red Drum Tackle, they'll tell you whats going on, Red Drum Tackle used to have a good message board, but I haven't been on it in years.

It's not open, and 99% most likely wont be open, its been closed to nests and that time period is prime hatch/fledging time where the closures get even larger.

You can drive north to corova beach and drive on the 4wd beach area, good holes about 5 miles up right now past the stumps, also plenty of horses to see.
