RE: Gulf Stream guys, do you chum? Yup, Squid said it right. Fall in NC is chunk season. You'll scratch fish on your color machine, usually 100-300' in 100 or so fathoms, move up current and start the butterfish.
A lot of times in the spring in FL/NC when we are picking gaffers off weedlines we will find a long stretch of weeds in good HOH and put out cat food, menhaden/oil, squid, et al. When doing this we ALWAYS fish livies deep [50-100']. Bigger fish are ususlly down a little. If the fish are on the line, they will eventually come into the chum line as long as yoiu can keep the boat/chum close to the weedline. Patience is the key! |
