I have been around boats and water all my life. My father being from Boston, gave me a lot of time out on Cape Cod in my younger days. We have had a home on Oak Island on the ICW since the mid 70's. We have had boats up on the freshwater lakes here in Gaston County and Stanly County for many years. After years of fishing off our dock, piers, creeks, surf, and inlets, I finally decided to get a small boat to fish some of the backwaters and inlets. Hopefully one day a bigger boat will satisfy our hunger for deeper waters. But for now, we are really looking forward to hitting the creeks, inlets and ICW. I figure its best and safer to fish these type waters before getting a bigger boat and heading out to deeper depths. Kind of the crawl before we walk advice and gain some experience in these waters. My girlfriend and I love to fish for anything. Doormats especially. But anything that hit our hooks suits us......We are just glad to be there and thankful we are able to get out there and fish.

I was raised in Wilmington and moved to Jax in 1960. All my family worked for the old ACL Railroad so when they left Wilmington we left. We lived in Sunset Park and had a place in what is now called Mallard Bay at the time we lived there it was called Topsail Acres. My dads last boat was a 18" Simmons man what a boat that was. I now live on the ICW in NE Jax at a place called Nassau Sound. I love Wilmington, Topsail and Carolina Beach area and often think about moving back but at 61 yrs old and handicapped I'll just visit from time to time. Still have the old house in Sunset Park which I rent out. Thanks for letting this old Tarheel enjoy your stories about the waters I grew up in. Any body here old enough to remember the ARK in downtown Wilmington? It was a Seafood Restaurant Boat on the waterfront many years ago. Or maybe Uncle Henry's Oyster House?
