Default Fiberglass / gelcoat repair

Hello all

I have some half dollar and smaller chips in my gelcoat and need some fiberglass work done to plug some holes on an 78 model center contsole.. can anyone recommend a repair guy that they would trust to work on their boat? I am looking for someone in the wilmington/CB area.. any suggestions would be appreciated..

thanks

You could get the stuff at any boat supply store and do it yourself. It isn't hard to do.

Patching and finishing is the easy part. Even buffing and shining gelcoat repair is easy.Matching gelcoat to a 1 year old boat that has been in the sun even with factory supplied gelcoat. Do you know how many whites are out there. More than all those white stars in the night.

The best of the best is Mckee custom boats. The do phenomonal work. You will not be dissappointed. They are very reasonable as well. They are in Bolivia. There number is 910-253-5948

For best match up, find a shop that sales & services your brand of boat. Had my Albemarle repaired last week, and had to special order gel coat. Outrageous gelcoat pricing! Boston Whaler & Albemarle are very expensive.
My point is find a shop/dealer that has your specific brand material in shop. Just a thought.

i wish it was that easy... i have a 78 pacemaker and i do not think any boat manufactures out there make that color any more.. it is teh original gelcoat 31 yrs old and with some wax it shines!!! it has never been painted.. it is a shame that this ding is there..

thanks for all the information and please keep it coming but I am probably looking for an "old salt" when it comes to repairing this gel coat..

Sounds like fairly minor repairs. Just the same, I've seen a lot of folks that can do decent glass work but can't get the color match and finish up to par. I'm sure there is someone in your area that is up to the job, just ask for a guarantee on color match and overall quality. If you can't find that, let me know- I'm not that far from you.

He has worked on my boat for years. He used to work at Boats Unlimited but he is now on his own. He is insured and certified.
