Can somebody give me info regarding whether or not it is safe to keep and eat fish from Lake Hartwel?

Growing up near Lake Hartwell, it's always been my understanding that the lake is polluted and it's not safe to eat fish from Hartwell. I'm just getting into fishing in the lake in the past year or so, and now I'm curious.

What's the deal?

I do mostly catch and release but we do keep some from time to time to eat, I love to catch and eat stripers.

I have read and been told that you would have to eat several pounds of fish each week and every week for at least 1 solid year to get any trace of the PCB's in your system.

I think most fisherman realize the warnings but I know a lot of people that really do not think anything of it.
