Chesapeake Bay Stripers I took my 14 yr old son and a few friends up to Chesapeake Bay this week end for stripers... It was a little late for them up in that area but the first time I could get away to go. The water temp there was @ 44 - 45 degrees.
Being from Henderson NC,we took the boat up on Friday and spent time with the family up there on Friday night then left Henderson @ 3:30 Saturday morning and were across the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel by 7:00. We went to the tackle store we always go to... Chris bait and tackle, picked up a few dozen live eels and we were in the water by 7:30.
We were fishing a place called Kiptopeke and things were pretty slow most of the morning. We went out past the briges and into the ocean side and drifted the eels under softball sized corks. Ended up being a good day for the Stick Slinger crew. We boated 4 Stripers, one 30 lbs, two at 32 lbs and one being a citation @ 42lbs.
It was a great day and if you have never done it up there I would reccommend it to anyone. There are citations caught and weighed almost daily this time of year, weather permitting.
The best part was doing it with my son and just enjoying life..
