Thanksgiving and Friday after Fishing Report > Morehead
My son and I fished Thursday and Friday out of Morehead. On Thursday, started at the 240 rock, water temp was 65 and looked really good. Did some deep jigging and had a few amberjack under the boat but no bites. Went to U352 and WWI wreck with no luck, trolled cigar minnows, yozuris, and jigged with no bites. Heard someone at the Papoose marking bait so went the extra 8 miles or so out there. Water was 68 with scattered weed. Marked a ton of bait but still no action. Did get one knockdown and run, but might have been a fat albert. Headed back in towards the 240 rock and saw a cluster of 4-5 boats about 3 miles east of the 240 rock. Water temp was 65 -66 over some good hard ledges. We set out one cigar minnow and had a king on before we could get the second rod out. Got him in the boat and could only get two rods out before we would get a hit. We kept 4 and released 6, all around 18 to 22 pounds. Wind switched on us and it turned a little sloppy, so we packed up and went in. Stopped at the end of the Lookout Rock Jetty on the way in and it was a parking lot. Caught about 2 dozen sea mullet on squid and headed in for the day.
Friday the ocean was rough so we decided to jig for trout. Stopped at the port wall and marked quite a few fish. Jigged off the bottom and quickly limited out on grey trout with a few specs mixed in. Also caught a few sea mullet and croakers on the jigs. All in all, a good trip with good weather. We did see 2 Bluefins free jump on Thursday about 3 miles past the Sea Buoy as well. |
