Pirates Cove, Many of the units have boat slips. Kind of expensive in the summer but very convenient. They have there own ship store and marina fuel there is pretty reasonable. We try to stay there everychance we can. It is very secure....Mark

You might be able to find a place in Old Nags Head cove. Pirates Cove and also Shallowbag bay should have rentals.

If you find a place in wanchese, you might be able to keep you boat in Broad Creek for the week?

Otherwise you could always rent something ocean front on Old Nags Head road and just keep the boat on the trailer. OI fishing center is not far down from there and pretty easy traffic wise, especially during the week. I have done that many times over the years and really enjoyed it. The girls have easy beach access, while the boys go fishing.

I agree with Mark on staying at Pirate's Cove - took my boat down there for a week in 2001 and loved it!

EVERYTHING (gas, bait, tackle, ice, food, etc.) you need is there and it IS very secure! We rented a home on a canal there and the boat was tied up DIRECTLY behind - about 20-25ft. away. The "slip" (25ft. of dock, water faucet, maybe electric?) was INCLUDED with the rental. You CAN keep your trailer UNDER the place you rent - if it FITS (mine did). Otherwise, they have (or use to have?) a LOCKED, FENCED-IN area nearby in Manteo to store trailers.

There's the public ramp right across the road for unload/load, and a SHORT run under the bridge to PC - depending on which canal you are nearest. We stayed one canal over from the marina.

The run down to OI by boat is 30min. or so - depending on how fast you want to get there. The public "beach" (ocean) is only about a 10min. drive from PC.

PC 'ain't cheap - especially during the summer - but it's VERY nice to have the boat READY to go and all the other amenities of the place! VERY nice!

Book EARLY (although they MAY make you wait 'til Jan. 1???) to get what you want!

There are condos, smaller homes, larger homes, and BIG homes in there - lots of options! Plus, you can do some moonlight crusing and fishing in the Sound closeby or cruise up to Manteo and the waterfront.

Regards,

Here are a few. We rented the 1st link the last 2 summers for 2 weeks at a time and loved it. We really like staying at the Peninsula Sub Division. The whole place has about 15 homes, only 3 are rentalS. Its about a mile away from PC and the homes cost less to rent. Its right behind the CVS just west of PC. All of these homes have docks, 2 have a pools. The neighborhood has their own boat ramp. Its about 10 minutes by boat to PC marina.

Thanks for the tips FASTFJR, and the others for PC, this will be my first time to OI area (heck, first time taking my boat into some blue water areas too) After checking out the charts (closer) and the Army Corps website for OI, that looks like some tricky waters. Hope to get out there this summer though, thanks again!!

With many of the rental companies you can book NOW. We booked for next June-July when we were down in August. The leases will start to go out after Thanksgiving.

Pirates Cove is a great choice, especially if you want amenities. Shallowbag Bay condos is another good possibility, just slightly further away towards downtown Manteo. The Penninsula subdivision is a little known secret. Small subdivision, less expensive, canal access to boat docks and ramp from Shallowbag Bay; private homes, no amenities. A handful of rental homes in there represented by various OBX agencies.
