I have spent the last week culling through fishing reports. The few I could find!
I have looked at both the charter reports and the guy next door. The charters are saying " Real Slow" at the moment. The few local reports I have found, say the same thing. Hanna, scattered storms , muddy warm waters, yada yada yada. and I think the biggest factor is that not a whole lot of fishing has been going on lately due to all the other factors. I plan to waste some gas this weekend, I need to get back on the water. If the fishing sux, well that's fishing. Maybe, just maybe some hungry fish will make my day. Just being on the water is worth while. I will post whether I catch or not. Lets get out there. ~JJ~

I went out of Hatteras two weekends ago and did OK. IN two days we had 18 mahi, 3 sharks and a bunch of small blackfin/albies and skippies, probably 20 total. I had a sail on for about three jumps. We jigged for about an hour on top of the Dixie on the way in Sunday and lost two rigs to something big. There were divers there talking about a school of tiger sharks around the wreck. Sunday was beautiful. At 4:00am, I got the first clear SST in a week and I saw a nice break on the 185/100. I found the break in 630 feet of water and it was beautiful. The current was ripping 4-5 mph but the mahi were there. One of the prettiest weed lines I have seen. 13 gaffers/slingers before noon and still more little tunas, 1-3 pounders.
The boat ran great. I think I have pushed 400 gallons of E-10 through her now. Filters look clean. Two days, 120 gallons. Not bad considering 10-12 hour days 30 miles out. The bite is good at Hatteras.
I haven't been to Hatteras in a few years, I really miss fishing there. Right here in North Myrtle ( Cherry Grove ) I can see the seaweed from my balcony, washing up on the beach. Makes trolling tough. I heard a ten foot shark was caught this morning from the pier adjacent to my condo. I do not know what kind it was. Hopefully the water will clear up in the next few day's.
I think I might wait till mid week to get back out. I was thinking about going Sunday, but forgot I have a birthday BBQ I was elected to handle for my two stepsons. ~JJ~

Had 6 mahi, 2 wahoo (45 and 58#), and a king in the stream a few days ago. One of my best friends had a 22, 25, and a 37# king tuesday. We are fishing Southport tomorrow. I have had a great year with only one skunk and one one fish day. Caught atleast 250 kings and 100 mahi this year. Tim
I have only been out four times this summer, I went out plenty during the spring and the fishing was very good. My last three trips, all during August were slow. Granted, I have not fished the stream this season for various reasons and August is typically slow inshore. Afternoon thunderstorms have also kept me off the water a few times. 65 miles to the stream from Little River inlet is a big factor, fuel and safety wise. I have only ventured to the stream (Steeples,Black Jack) a few times in the last two years. And the fishing was excellent. Now with fuel cost, I will settle for the fall run nearshore out to roughly thirty five miles. Last season, I fished just about every other day and had a handle on when and where the fish were. A typical stream trip would cost me 600.00/800.00 in fuel at these crazy fuel prices. The last stream trip I made, I used almost a full tank of gas. My boat holds close to two hundred gallons, 185 to be exact. The winds picked up and it was rough weather coming back in with a head sea at night. It took me all night to get back. I am considering purchasing a winter getaway around Stewart Fl. I used to live near there and going to the stream was a hop, skip and a jump. But for the time being, I plan to work the Fall run in the area of the Jungle, when it arrives.~JJ~

Frank, I have a crew champing at the bid to fish the" Fall Brawl". If I get out a few times between now and then and the fish co-operate, I just might sign up. I have never entered a turny, but I have fished during a few. And I might have placed a few times. This might be a good time to throw my ass into the mix. I never really felt confident enough to enter a competition, but last year during the "Jolly Mon" I went out and kicked ass. I wasn't signed up, I did it to see If I had a chance to compete. And I would have placed in the top five. So maybe this year I will give it a shot. What the hell. I even let some SKA pro's last year follow me out two day's before the turny and I put them on fish. During the turny they did not make it in time for weigh in. They only nailed three small kings anyway's. Great bunch of guy's, I was sorry my numbers did not pan out for them. I need to fish! Or I will lose my mind. If I do not hear a reel burn soon........I will be intolerable to live with. ~JJ~
