Wanting to buy a nice WA and am concerned about the trailering issue. I live in the central part of the state and always trailer. Do I buy the 242 ( or some boat that size) and know I'm legal or buy the 262 (which I prefer) and hope common sense prevails in Raleigh so that we can legally pull over 8"6"? Opinions please, not so much on the boats but the sizes.
That one's kind of tough to answer.....Common sense doesn't seem to be prevailing in Raleigh right now, but we are all still hopeful. I will say, however, that your dilemma provides a perfect example of how the current laws are negatively impacting the boating industry.
I would wait and see what happens myself if you are dead set on those boats. I was in the same boat as you back in the spring. It came down to a Mckee or Cape Horn back in mar for me. I chose the one with the 8'6" beam among other reasons. Either way, I'm covered. However, The way this whole thing has come about just p!sses me off.
Here's my 2 cents, I would buy the 26 and find somewhere at the coast to keep it. I have my boat in a fenced lot on HI and it runs me $30 a month, I guarantee if I make one trip a month to use it thats cheaper than the extra gas it would take me to pull back and forth from Raleigh. I'm a mile or so from the ramp, I take my chances with that.
That's not a bad idea except we boat at a few of the lakes around here. We like to camp and boat at Jordan Lake. Keeping it at the coast would put an end to that.

Matt,
I am paying $70/month on HI. Where is your storage place?

Damn Matt, I wanna know the same thing. That sounds like adeal there. Even though I'm only a 100 miles from the coast and I go from Oregon inlet down to Southport, I'd have to seriously reconsider at that price, at least during the fall
