Re: Tips for Surf Fishing in the Outer Banks? I have fished quite a bit off the surf/inlets on Oak Island. If the minnows are running in the surf, which I believe they are due to hit the surf. I always have my throw net with me. A good bait bucket with a bubble box is a must. I use a flounder rig with a #2 flounder hook. Hook up a live minnow or live shrimp. Spanish Macks, flounder, trout, and bluefish usually satisfy their hunger for food and your hunger for a nice hit. Look for some sharp drop offs on the beach at low tide, remember where they are and cast in to that area during high tide. That works for me. If you can fish any inlets or backwater areas, that should produce even better results. Sand fleas are great too. I just don't see them rolling in the surf like I use too. They can work their majic too.
Good luck and have a great week. We are heading back down tomorrow ourselves to Oak Island for 10 days of fishing R&R. But mostly fishing........
