Default Tips for Surf Fishing in the Outer Banks?

hey guys, I'm heading to Kill Devil Hills for my annual Outer Banks vacation and was wondering if anyone could give me some up to date info/tips/advice on fishing from the beach. Any specific species running right now? if so, tips on targeting them?
Normally we fish offshore when we are up there, but finances might keep us on shore this year. And coming from Key West, I never really fish in the surf. Mostly because we don't have any!

I've fished Ocracoke a lot over the years and generally find a mixed bag this time of year. You can catch Flounder, Sea Mullet Spanish, etc. I really like fishing the surf for Pompano when they are in the surf. Use a # 4 Kahle gold hook, 18" of 15 LB flouracorbon leader, a barrel swivel, bead and about a 1/2 oz egg sinker. Put about a 1/4 " square piece of Fishbites shrimp or crab flavor on the hook and then put a nice size sand flea on the hook. Use a medium wieght casting or surf spin outfit and toss it just over the surf wash line . Move the rig about a foot at a time. You will pick up all kinds of good eating species.

I have fished quite a bit off the surf/inlets on Oak Island. If the minnows are running in the surf, which I believe they are due to hit the surf. I always have my throw net with me. A good bait bucket with a bubble box is a must. I use a flounder rig with a #2 flounder hook. Hook up a live minnow or live shrimp. Spanish Macks, flounder, trout, and bluefish usually satisfy their hunger for food and your hunger for a nice hit. Look for some sharp drop offs on the beach at low tide, remember where they are and cast in to that area during high tide. That works for me. If you can fish any inlets or backwater areas, that should produce even better results. Sand fleas are great too. I just don't see them rolling in the surf like I use too. They can work their majic too.

Good luck and have a great week. We are heading back down tomorrow ourselves to Oak Island for 10 days of fishing R&R. But mostly fishing........
