Maybe a decent deal, if it increases water access.....

Hey Oakisland,

What makes you think that it would be a "decent deal"? I know we need access improvements, but I'm against anymore hidden taxes at all.

Some boat owners use only private ramps or storage facilities with forklifts.

Also, people trailering to NC from out of state use the same ramp I do (and pay for via my taxes) for free.

We have a fishing liscense for both residents and out of state people, why not a boat ramp liscence for out of state people?

Only people that own a boat trailer are likely to use a public boat ramp, so why not tax the boat trailer lisc. tag via DMV and not via their boat reg fee? Residents of NC with boat trailers should pay the fee, not everybody with a boat. DMV should already know if it's a boat trailer or not. That little sticker on the trailer tag should just have a boat ramp symbol on it.

Lets make our visitors share in our expense. Visitors would have the option of getting a public boat ramp permit just like they do a non-resident fishing liscense. (Lets say $35 for an annual ramp fee and $12 for a two week permit for out of state people.)

I can be for fees and taxes that are paid by the people that use the services.

You have made some good points. Why not contact the author of the bill and share your thoughts with them. There is plenty of time left in this bill to make significant changes in committee....
