Re: catfish I used to fish there quite a bit. The first secret is to catch fresh shad with a cast net. I have found that the best way to do this is to beach the boat and walk or wade the shorline casting as far out in front of you as possible. Jordan is so full of shad that the big cats have no need to eat anything else...shad outfishes any other bait I've tried by far.
As far as location, mostly I fished Jordan in the late spring-summer...in may/june they are running shad up on the banks...you can fish from shore, or anchor offshore and cast your baoit towards shore. As it warms up get in the boat and find a spot where the river channel comes up fast then levels off fish just on the shallow side of the channel...the big cats come up out of the deep to feed...
We usually would just cut the dead fresh shad in chunks and put them on a large (2/0) Kahle hook tied directly to the main line...no sinker no float...just a hook...cast the bait on it's own weight...leave the bail open or leave a baitcaster in free spool with the clicker on....let the big cat take line for a good while before setting the hook...
PS...all of this is to be done at night....with the best bite just at dusk and dawn.... |
