Default SC Striped Bass Restrictions Considered

In a move that clashes with South Carolina’s don’t-tell-me-what-to-do mentality, a coalition of fishing guides, tourism officials and anglers is pleading with the Legislature to place more restrictions on catching striped bass. . . .

In today's state newspaper. the link:

Now: Year-round fishing is permitted in the Santee River system. Limit: five striped bass a day; they must be longer than 21 inches.

Proposed: Ban fishing for striped bass in the Santee River system June 1-Sept. 30. The rest of the year, anglers could keep only three fish a day, 26 inches long, at minimum.

I'm all in favor of it. Yeah I'm sure there be some pissing & moaning about not catching any keepers the next year or two. Would love to see the return of big fish in Santee.

We have those types of restriction her in Virginia and they change some every year. They have a separate chart for striper fishing which you have to read 10 times to understand and when in doubt call and ask. We have rules like you can keep two fish from 18 to 27 inches but one fish can be over 32 inches but still counts against your two fish limit. Then there are different seasons for different areas and the sizes of the fish change with the different areas for stripers. I'm not saying its wrong but it can get very confusing. Good Luck
