Default Wrightsville beach / Wilmington info needed.

I'm going to be working in Wilmington from mid Feb. to begining of May. I'm looking for a friendly bait and tackle in the area. Also, I will be fishing the Intracoastal behind Wrightsville beach from a friend's dock. What rigs, lures, baits should I try this time of year? I plan to bring my surf rod and fish Masonboro inlet from shore, any suggestions for that would be appreciated. Finially I would like to take a trip with a local guide if you can recommend someone. Thanks for all the help. John

The best tackle shop has to be Tex's Tackle..........the staff all fish & can help you with rigs.
http://www.texstackle.com/welcome.htm

This time of year we mostly fish lures & plugs - Gold Hopkins & Kastmaster, MirrOlure Top Dogs & Rapalla Skitterwalkers on a 7 to 9 foot rods. Bucktails & jigheads with Gulps.
Bring your waders the surf is still cold......
Masonboro jetty is always a good free spot.
Buy a drive on pass for surffishing Carolina Beach south & north ends.

Grouper fishing has been HOT- if you got a jigging setup bring it.

Guides........for offshore & inshore

Capt. Jim Sabella - Plan 9 Charters 910-279-7303.....
Capt. Rick Corson 910-620-7709.......
Capt. Owen Sewell 910-622-3474............
Capt. Stu Caulder (Gold Leader Charters) 910-264-2674............
Capt. Jot Owens 910-233-4139........

Hope this helps..........ICM

I will second Tex's Tackle....Great sales staff. They are really helpful with current reports. I fished with Capt. Bobby White on an inshore charter and had a great trip. He does Inshore and near shore charters. You can look him up at www.marker39.com

Thanks ICM, and 18Parker. From other threads it sounds like I might find puppy drum and flounder inshore where I'll be fishing. Any other species swimming around this time of year in the surf or backside? Any live bait fishing this time of year? Thanks for the help. John

I would submit Intracoastal Angler to you for your tackle needs. Does not have as much inventory but is right off the island and is much closer than Tex's. Stuart Smith is the owner and is very knowledgeable. They have a guide named Seth that is great for flyfishing and redfish.

Reel Bait and Tackle has all you needs and at a great price, I believe Tex is very proud of his tackle, he's kinda pricey.

Mostly been bottom fishing, when we can get out....
Inshore & surf has been slow, much to cold to try....
A couple of warm sunny days is all it will take......
No bait around, but you should be able to find Speckled Trout....
Tex's Tackle is a fully stocked shop with good prices & a staff that knows how to fish....
Also close to WB......

When you get here PM me for an update.....Good luck......ICM

Another place to consider is Bug'em Bait on Military Cut Off Rd, just south of Wrightsville Beach. Lloyd Eastlack who owns the store is a retired offshore charter captain can help on all of your offshore tackle and inshore tackle needs. Lewis, who works in the shop also doubles as and inshore guide and is very knowledgeable.
