Went to the boat show in Raleigh yesterday, got to talk with Woody Riddick. He was a great guy and I learned alot about his skiffs. He is now installing a fiberglass leaning post with a big baitwell in it on the 2290. I think this is the skiff I want and I looked at them all yesterday at the show except for intruder but they are too small and out of my price range. So my question is which motor is the best for that skiff. I know I want a 115 HP but do I go suzuki, Yahama, E-tec or Mercury. I am leaning towards the yahama F115 but mainly for resale value. Also Woody Riddick suggested for the best ride install trim tabs, I have seen them on the 201 model but never on the 2290. I appreicate any input on these boats now I need to take a ride on one.
In my opinion go with the mercury optimax 115. I don't know where you will be buying, but if you talk to Paul and Randy at Outback Marine in Morehead, they will probably say the same thing. And definitely get the tabs, I have them on my 2290 and it makes a world of difference. Good Luck. P. S. they are outstanding boats and good people to deal with.
Mine runs very comfortably around 30 to 32 knots with my 115 optimax. That is not WOT. I asked when buying about moving up to a 135 and was told by several reliable sources and boat owners that I would pick up a mph or 2 and burn more fuel. I have been very pleased with my 115.
the one i looked at during the boat show was from percision marine in goldsboro. that boat Has a yamaha f115 on it. their price was better than outback marine but mabey they will match. i have never run an optimax but i heard they are strong. i do know that the suzuki has the most engine displacement of them all. any opinions on suzuki

That was why I asked. I run a comparable boat, but I have a Suzuki 175 on it... I am no speed demon, but I like the boat to get up quickly on plane in shallow water.
I Also Have a 2290 With 115 optimax. Zero Problems with motor. Bought The Boat in 06 without Tabs, had Tabs Installed June 07 Made Trhe biggest Difference. So I Would Recommend The Tabs.
Woody Riddick, said they help. He says his hulls are not really flat and the tabs help smooth out the ride. The tabs are standard on the 201 but he said they deffinatly make a difference on the 2290.
