Default NORTH SANTEE RIVER....

I was thinking about launching my boat into the North Santee River where HWY 17 crosses over it, on the southern side of Georgetown, heading toward Charleston.
My question is, are there any fish worth fishing for in that part of the Santee...Stripe Bass, maybe??? Catfish? I was told it's about a 5 or 6 mile run to reach salt water...once in the salt water, what are the local options without going into the ocean? Winter Trout...Spot tails? Anyone fish these areas this time of year, any advice, fishing reports and/or techniques specific to the area would be greatly appreciated. I want to make the run tomorrow early A.M.
Fished Murrells inlet marsh areas today, no luck...some guys did o.k., but, that was hearsay, I didn't actually see anyone catch a thing. All the guys I spoke with at the landing were also skunked today. I don't normally fish this time of year, have the 18 Sea Pro put up for the winter. I'm using my 14 foot bay boat, so going out into the ocean is off limits to me. I like to fish soft baits, Gulps, etc.
Thanks to anyone who can offer me any help.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

WOW!! I NEVER! thought Janurary fishing could be this good!
I put in at 7 a.m., went down river about 4 or 5 miles. I worked the banks, some feeder creeks, using yellow GUlp baits, and, caught 15 winter trout!!! To top it off, I managed to boat 3 nice Spot Tail between 19 and 22 inches, and, one pink Mermaid of Asian decent....she was sooo beautiful, then I.................WOKE UP

Had ya goin' there, for a minute....c'mon, admit it. Actually, slept in late, too windy for my taste today. Went to bed late, after watching the ball drop with my two twelve year olds....and watching them do some silly New Year dance. made me remember all those years ago, when it used to be a big deal to me, ahhh, to be young again....but, not in this day and age...but back then...not so bad.

Anyway, from what info I can find, seems that the winter trout and spot tails are far mor willing to bite in the Charleston area...and, alot more places/choices to fish for them there. Looks like a weekend trip in comming....
