Default Trout

Can anyone tell me if the trout are still around capelookout rock jetty. I am trying to take the kids out this weekend and put them on some trout. If anyone has any recommendations that would be great.
Thanks

65 degrees, sunny, and calm... you'll probably be the only one there.

Thanks I needed that! Any suggestions where one might go without having lures cast into my boat?

CFish, you can do the Rock Jetty, just have some patience and a good anchor.

I took my 15 year old and a friend last week and we caught about 30 in 1.5 hours, kept enough for dinner. They had a great time and it was just as fun watching some tots in the next boat catch fish too. It is a different experience, but most everyone is nice.

We used white Gulp 3 inch mullet minnows on a carolina rig (one once slip sinker) fished on the bottom very slow. We caught most our fish quite a distance off the Jetty - don't feel you have to be right on it to catch fish - you can be in the "second Row"

Good luck

Thanks Joe,
I'll be trying just what you suggested. Don't have the minnows but plenty of 3" white shrimp and chartreuse minnowes all gulp. Did you use florocarbon leader?
Thanks Craig

Yes, I did use a fluorocarbon leader (15 and 30 lb), but that was probably not needed

You may want to sneak out and get some white swimming mullet, that has been a consisent producer for me. With a little current, they just sit on the bottom and "swim" to their hearts content. We did very well with them.

Good luck

Hey saltydawgrods there wasn't a single boat at the jetty this weekend. Not there were 400 boats at the jetty this weekend. We got anchored by 7am and had plenty of room then someone opened the door and the place got crazy. After fishing for an hour peacefully the rest of the day I spent fending boats off my hull. I had 5 people on my boat and we boated over 200 specs in 3 hours. Kept enough to feed everyone. The kids had a blast.
Hey Joe thanks for the lure tip. Although they were hitting everything you could throw on the jetty Sunday. Great day beautiful weather.
