Default Here come the increased fees!

I think all of us here in NC wanted to know what was going to happen with the boat ramp access gridlock.

So the NCWRC has decided to get the money for ramps from your boat registration fees which will increase after Jan. 1, 2008 as follows:

One year boat registration from $10 to 15$. (+50%)
Three year boat registration from $25 to $40. (+62.5%)

I guess we boaters in NC will be getting a whole lot better quality at our NCWRC boat ramps and new NCWRC ramps beginning construction next year?

Anybody know of the exact plans on how these funds will be deployed and where?

This is just like everything else in the state. They just put their hands in our pockets every chance they get. I have been in NC all of my life and we used to be one of the lowest taxed states in the country, now we are bordering on the highest once you add everything up from sales tax to a fee on everything that moves. Our wonderful governor and the democratic legislature continue to spend at an alarming pace and just raise taxes and fees whenever they want to whomever they want with no conscience for their actions. Just my humble opinion.

Despite what the legislators said, the fishing license fees will ultimately wind up in the "General" fund and get spent elsewhere.

Hey guys! I dont mind the fees if we get results!

I see no plans for which these fees are to pay for. Where can I get them?

See the press release on NCWRC website.

Can you not ever remember hearing things like this before?

Just one example.....

Fuel taxes are supposed to pay for roads, now we have a toll road authority.

The reason we have a toll road authority is because Easley and the legislature raided the road savings fund of several hundred million dollars several years ago and never replaced a dime. That is why our roads are in such terrible shape and we have no money for new roads.

Anyone have a map of where the new ramps will be? Or how about upgrading some of the existing ones. Wow, this $$ plus the license fees should really help us... Yeah right!!

Default RE: Here come the increased fees!

I'm a low tax, small government advocate, so my faith that the increased fees will be used wisely is inherently low. That being said, there are very few situations where the need is so clear and the funds raised so easily measured. So, I'd love to see a clear "P&L" where the revenue stream was the net new funds and the expenses are the list of new projects for wildlife ramps. If the net "profit" is positive, reduce the fees unless you can demonstrate that an additional project is needed. Then I would be OK with adding the project in lieu of returning the funds. I know, this is a dream, but then again I run a business where there are consequences to spending more than you have (or more than the market will value).......

Another beuacratic CROCK! I was born and raised here. It will never change, taxes/fees continue to go up with no tangable results. Last year saltwater License, now boat registraion fees, what next? Luxury tax on boats? I like you guys have no problem paying fees to support our sport as long as you see results. Unfortunately as stated in a previous post, this tax and spend liberal government will piss it away for some dumb crap that has nothing to do with boat ramps or fishing. I have no faith. The only sounds descision I agree with is the OLF. Everything else he is no different that GWB. Just my .02

Yep we pay the third highest fuel tax in the nation that was to pay for roads ( NOT ). Now we get an increase in registration to pay for ramps only time will tell. Just so you guys know by law the state has to make available a breakdown of taxes and fees and what they are spent on. I forget where in Raleigh you can request this. I'm sure if you google it you will find it. I don't mind paying a little more as long as it wasn't used for something else.

That might be enough to buy the land for a ramp.

Sorry I stirred this topic up, but you folks in NC can discuss this with with your local NWRC comissioner as follows at www.ncwildlife.org/fs_index_commission.htm.

Unfortunately, the NCWRC all seem to "appointed" positions and probably not elected by the votes of our hunting/fishing liscence or boat registrations, so we need not expect a true answer from any of them about why these boat fees are increased and what the addition money is going to be used for.
