WELL...Headed out at quarter to 6 from pirate's cove with everything done up right and ready to slay um. Alan, I did see that report last night and we decided to head north and fish on what turned out to be a solid 74/63-5ish break around the 750 I believe. Chris had seen the darker witches so I had based my spread around that and ran more blue/black, purple/black, black/black/hint of white than pinks, etc. Inlet looked good this morning but with that west wind, the further off we got, the rougher it got. Went from swelly 3-5, to 5-7, to choppier 3-5's the further south we got but you get the idea, it was a rough day and some baits were having a hard time staying down. Out go the flat lines, then throw the long out and head for the opposite long when pop, the black/blue head gets nailed. Few minutes later had a 45-50 class fish in the box.
Damn 3 minutes in and were hit, I like that! Work our way back and forth around this area and the edge for 2.5 hours without another sniff. Not even marking anything. Maybe we missed the morning bite a little since it takes us a good bit longer to get out there then the OIFC guys but there was only 1 other boat within proximity. I'm thinking they decided on south again and that break, and they ended up being right, go figure! With the scattered grass really picking up we decided to head south around 11. Stay in 64 water for a long while and only making 11 knots b/c of our angle we gave up making it south of the point and dropped em around the 630 in colder water still. Got some deep marks here and there but thas it. Picked up a nice size false albie and with my dad's bad back called it a day shortly after.
Ended up being really disappointed with that start area choice and it made for a long and wet day. Possibly gonna try again saturday if not with pops then maybe someone else? Bottom line, wrong decision today, got to the morning bite late....will most likely run south next time.

We fished on West Wind out of Wanchese, Capt'n called it @ 9 after we had baits in for 1.5 hrs with nothing going on. It would have been nice to fish longer, and judging by the reports the folks that did were successful, but not my call. I know we ran North, not exactly where, I was in the cockpit all day, but we were around the northern boats, so I'm guessing the 7/800's. I heard the boats that ran south found some fish. Hoping to make it out again soon, Sucks to miss a day of work for a 5 hr boat ride.

It happens, there were occasional 10-12 footers mixed in...that's not fun when your not catching fish. Probably a good call because we were north and I saw a couple boats run in. Not to much action up there.
We gave it a go yesterday and got absolutely nothing. We fished for 9 hours from north of the point to the sout of the point and saw one boat hooked up all day. Out of all the boats that fished yesteday there were a total of 2 yft and 1 yahoo. It made for a long day but the water was good. Found a nice temp break and a good green water blue water line but could not get anything to bite. We had one knock down late in the day and that was it. The first time I have got skunked all year. That sucks. You never know what will happen if you stay home. Maybe better luck next time.
I heard it was bad out there on Tues. We fished the 750 on Mon, 3 hoo's died, had a white hooked up for a couple minutes, had another white look and got bit off too many times along w/a couple rubber hook tuna bites. The tuner bite sounded better down near the 400 although a few were caught in the 2 tones.
Good grief man, button them britches (or tell whoever that is to button em up if it ain't you)...I concede she's a good lookin lady, but have some tact for the pictures
Congrats on the fish...wish I could get out there.
