Anyone use this public ramp? Heard it was rather shallow and possibility of getting into an oyster bed easily.
Need to launch near Beaufort this weekend, would appreciate any input on this ramp.

If you don't know the area or the ramp very well, I'd stay away from it. Just unload at the Wildlife Ramp in Morehead City. Nice ramp and decent parking. You're five minutes from Beaufort.
Graydon Paul Park is the one at the end of Front St. is it usually pretty busy?
Is there a dock or pier there?
The folks we are staying with are within rock throwing distance of that area, we can see all the "abandoned" sailboats and the silver tarped shanty from their porch.
Talked to a guy from another site who says he launches a 23 there all the time, any tide, just need to watch the oyster bar near the opposite shore.
Sure would like to try it but don't want to get a bad start to what we are hoping is a great day.

Scott, if your talking about the one down lenoxville rd. They have docks. Pretty deep. I have put in there several times at low tide. Go early to beat the crowd.
Good luck.
We were docked at Town Creek for 3 years and watched people struggle with the ramps. Saturday afternoons sitting on the FlyBridge facing the ramps was entertaining.
The ramp closest to the airport has a VERY steep drop off and at low tide can ruin your weekend.
I recommend Graydon Paul Park. Very good ramps.
I launch there as I keep the boat 1/4 mile away- 21' bay boat with bunks, slicks on the front bunks. Never had a problem with the oyster bar but always conscience of where it is.
And there 's a bad drop off at the end from the powerloading. Can be a little sporty at dead low tide. Slicks made the difference for me.
And the docks are a little worse for wear.
Beaufort & Morehead are better no doubt but more crowded especially on nice weekends.
BTW, that ramp is scheduled for a $500K makeover and I think the existing ramps will be converted to yak/canoe launch site.

Scott.....Definitely stay away from T/C unless it is high tide and there are lots of oysters......having a WC from T/C, I have a little experience with that ramp. Not a great place for a bigger boat.

Nice ramp but you better the first 12 in there..unless parking is across the 4 lane beside the school and it's random.
And by the time you go thru the no wake zone, you're more like 15 minutes from beaufort.
Thanks everyone......Graydon Paul Park it is. T/C is very close to where we are staying but don't want to risk it.
Maybe the new improved ramp will be in the future for us.
Would I be better of going East to clear the creek quickly, or go West (no wake zone?) along the length of the creek towards Radio Island to get to the inlet?

I have CMap Max and plotted a course this evening reading water depths going East.....seen some pretty skinny spots but that's why I posted the ? here before going out.
Is all of T/C no wake?
Thank you for all the responses so far!
Scott

i launch at the town creek marina all the time. WAY more parking than the MHC ramp or the other ramp in Beaufort. The ramp does drop off at the end but its plenty long enough and theres plenty of room to stay off teh oyster bed.

All around Town Creek until you get to the main channel is "no wake". If you make a wake around Town Creek what remains of the docks will probably fall apart. The place has really gone downhill.
Town Creek did not build any new docks. Their docks have been barely floating since the storms of 2004. They built a Tiki Bar instead of using the insurance money for the docks. You can barely walk on them without going overboard.
