Default Ocean Isle / crusing areas

My father is going to Ocean Isle for a week tomorrow. I went there last year but did not have a boat. What is there to see around the area via 20 center console? I do not expect they will be fishing. I saw all those canals and everything. Is there anything else near there?

Also, input on where to eat around there is appreciated. Last time all I saw was the place near the bridge. Thanks.

If the boat is on the intracoastal he could head to Calabash and little river, A few restaurant/bars on the intracoastal. Casino boats, charter boats etc. Not a far ride from Ocean Isle.~JJ~

dnh - Great area to spend a week with a boat! Just to the East is Shallotte inlet with plenty on space to anchor and hang out. To the West is the Sunset Beach bridge (which opens for boat passage on the hour), and beyond it is the Little River inlet/Calabash area that Jetty Jay mentioned. Little River inlet is a huge area to hang out and explore. If your father is comfortable going out of an inlet and the conditions are good, going out of Shallotte inlet, cruising along the coastline down to Little River inlet, coming back in and taking the ICW back up to Ocean Isle is a very nice, scenic loop.
As for restaurants, Sharky's on the island is very good - have not been to the Gigglin Mackeral yet, but it seems to stay busy. As mentioned before, Calabash has quite an array of restaurants and shopping also. Good times!

You might want to try the "Sugar Shack" near the airport....excellent food...

Good eating areas at S/Port w/dock space....Provision Co. and Fishy Fishy Cafe...both are great....also places
in Holdens Beach just under the bridge...Capt. Petes I think....

At Shallotte inlet there are great places to pull up and beach and/or anchor....decent bottom fishing there also...

I agree with the other posts. The Sugar Shack has really good Jamaican style food although no boat access - but where else will you find curried goat? Giggling Mackeral and Sharkeys both are fine. There is a Provision Company just west of the Oak Island Bridge in addition to the Southport location. Room for about four boats to dock.

Does Bluewater Marina have space available for people to stop for dinner? I went up the little river to Calabash a few months ago and there wasn't anywhere to dock.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I know the SC coast up and down but haven't spent much time in NC on the coast since I went to Camp Morehead 23 years ago... I appreciate it. I didn't realize it was so close to Calabash.

Do you mean stay inside of the marked channel but on the right side inbound, or do you mean go in actually outside of the marked channel just right of the right markers?
