Default Swan Quarter fishing report

Put in Sunday at Swan Quarter hoping to get a tarpon. We ran out about ten miles and set up shop. Shortly after getting the baits in the water I had a pick up, whatever it was as quickly dropped the bait. Saw one tarpon roll. The whole time that I was anchored up, my wife was slaying the grey trout fishing on the bottom. After about two hours of waiting, I saw some birds off in the distance. We pulled anchor and ran over to them. For the next hour and fifteen minutes we caught one 2lbs blue after another. Finally wore out we decided to go home. Pulled up Swan Quarter on GPS and we were 24 miled from the dock. We had followed those blues for 14 miles. Almost to Ocrocoke. Oh! I also caught a hispanic mackeral in the chaos. My wife remarked that the boat looked like a blood bath with puked up minnows and blood everywhere.

Racinmullet,

Sounds like a good day reeling them in. What were the blues hitting?

Not looking for GPS coordinates for your honey holes, but I am new to fishing the Pamlico area. I have been trying to find my hook up with my first Tarpon and have been told to put baby crabs out around the "Pamlico Light" area. Have drifted all over the place and nothing. I usually run out of Jones Bay, so on the way out or in have been able to pick up some specks and flatties for dinner with each trip.

Thanks

Bowties

The blues were hitting stingsilvers but they will bite on anything when they are feeding like that. I don't mind telling where we were fishing. We were over Brant Island shoals to start but then ran almost all the way to behind Ocrocoke. As far as tarpon fishing is concerned, I am new to it in NC. I have caught a couple in the keys. Everybody I am talking to is fishing around Indian Island in the mouth of the Pamlico River. We basically use a fish finder rig with cut blues or mullet on the bottom. A crab floating around doesn't hurt your chances.
